On a family vacation in either 63 or 64 my dad took me to WQAM which was a legend and I met Rick Shaw and Charlie Murdock let me sit in the control room and watch. I was a kid part-timer at a Texas station and it was a highlight for sure over 50 years of being in radio. I think that aircheck he made is still in circulation these days...the station was unbelievably professional and exciting!

When I saw the 1964 date I wondered if any Beatles songs would be played. First song!

I remember when Lee Sherwood was a disc jockey and later program director at 55 KUSA in St. Louis Missouri from 1983 to 1991 he seemed like such a nice guy!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Certainly plenty of Beatles songs being played back then. I was living in Sydney Australia back in 1964 and I remember listening many of the stations there from different parts of Australia on my dad's old Oceanic radio. Occasionally, we would also hear stations from new Zealand as well.

Great time capsule. I especially liked the Ford commercial. Listening to the broadcast in real time is actually interesting as you can hear the flow of the show as originally heard. I noted the JFK HS must have just been renamed after 11/63. The Beatles dominating the playlist is a good example of what may have been heard on AM all across the USA and Canada in March of ‘64. I enjoyed listening to the news and noted. The growing Vietnam war was not mentioned but Cuba and Berlin were. Plus a brief mention of racial tensions. One armed robbery, wife killed because the husband thought the gun wasn’t loaded. Plus the traffic and accident death count
