I have an 11yr old daughter snd 13yr old son. It’s awesome that Mike and his team do this job in helping lock away predators but we as parents must do our jobs too. We need to make sure our kids aren’t posting things that might get them unwanted attention, make sure they have privacy settings on so that they can’t get comments and friend requests from random strangers etc. Like Mike said, it takes 5minutes to check a kids settings on their phone. I have friends who let their kids just do as they please on IG and Snapchat etc. nope… not my kids! My daughter loves TikTok but it’s restricted and she’s not allowed her own profile. if she doesn’t like it… then oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a child in the early 1990s, I lived through being groomed and sexually abused by multiple people, which amongst other traumas significantly impacted on my adolescence and adult life. I have survived drug addiction and suicide attempts but thanks to the love and understanding of my fiancée, I sought therapy at the age of 31. Whilst I will never get justice for what I endured, it gives me hope to see that people like Mike are working tirelessly to do what police forces are often unable to commit resources to. Thank you for sharing his story, @LADBible, awareness is imperative in the prevention of crimes against children.

One time when i was around 12 i took the bus home from school, and when i got off my stop there was an older man sitting at the bus stop waiting for the bus. However he didn't get on it when it arrived, but instead followed me for several blocks. So i had the idea of taking 3 right turns so that we would eventually go in a circle. When i looked behind me on the last turn he was still following me, so as soon as i got around the corner i sprinted home, and hid in my front lawn up in a tree. I saw him walk on the street by my house, looking around trying to find me, and then he finally fucked off. Shit was scary.

A year ago today we released the first episode of Minutes With, featuring Mike from Darklight. Since then, we’ve run the show on a weekly basis and have met and listened to so many amazing people tell us their incredible stories. A lot of people have asked is to release longer cuts of the interviews, so to mark the one year anniversary, we will start to release longer episodes. We checked in with Mike on the impact that the original video had on him. He shared the following message: Since the original video we have had people from all over the world contacting us offering support and best wishes. Parents have seen the video and checked their children's devices finding that their children were been groomed online which has lead to those children been protected. The comments humbled me truly and gave me so much validation. I cant thank the lad bible team enough for making little mike proud of the person he has become. Paedophilia should be the most clear-cut, black-and-white cases that go up against the court. The sentences should be extremely harsh, too. There's really not many grey areas at all, besides the example given in the video. I know judges don't feel the same, though I understand why drug-dealers are given harsh sentences (I don't agree with it though, but it's in the court's interest as there's plenty of money and property to be seized and sold). It's always made me question why paedophiles why they're given very lenient sentences in the UK.

@@headliner48 I wouldn't really say "in the UK", because that makes me think of the people more than the judges and it's definitely not tolerated by the people. Or by most people. @@gorkyd7912 unfortunately, I don't think you can rehabilitate someone who has such a lack of empathy for other people that they would abuse a child. The children they hurt will suffer with the trauma from these monsters choices for the rest of their lives, the least we could do is make them spend the rest of their lives in prison. I know you probably also agree with that statement and we're just pointing out how the system works.
@gorkyd7912
@gorkyd7912 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAwesomes2104 Every person acts selfishly, empathy doesn't have a lot to do with it. Rehabilitation works when the self-destruction and consequences of harm done to others can be shown to outweigh the relatively small and fleeting physiological reward for offending. In this way it's no different than rehabilitating a drug addict or domestic violent. The core problem for society trying to undergo this endeavor is that we have to show that living a non-abusive life has a somehow morally superior quality, otherwise there's no way to convince anyone who has no self-worth that they should not take a self-destructive course of action. Neither empathy nor threats will deter someone who no longer puts value on life itself and in this state society has bigger problems than just pedos believe it or not.

The work they’re doing is just amazing. Thank you so, so much for keeping our kids safe. I do have to say though, the justice system has failed. 8 years for sexually abusing a girl for 5 years? He stole her innocence away, the years she was supposed to be a carefree child were destroyed by that man. There’s no doubt in my mind that there’s incidences that we’re never disclosed to the police. Men like that deserve a life sentence for stealing the lives of young children.

Parents also have a responsibility to protect children too. Why are there always a group that couldn't care less and think it's someone elses responsibility? Probably the same types that want their road blocked off so children can wander about at all hours as they can't be bothered looking after them. I would also want people with criminal records banned from such hunting groups and banned from social media.

I wish that a group like this had been the ones to sting an older family member of mine. He has learning difficulties and has always had problems. He had a really vile upbringing but fared much worse than the others in the family because of his difficulties. I’m very glad he was caught, but he was stung live on Facebook with his name and details broadcast, which led to everyone he relied on being forced to ostracise him, and tbh was pretty sickening for me watching someone I had grown up with in this situation. I know how many issues he has, and obviously the stingers didn’t bother to notice, or else didn’t care. The help he needed wasn’t given to him - he needed social services to get involved. His learning difficulties are that severe. He went to prison for a year. Got out and then eventually got caught in the same way, went to prison for a much longer time. Still in there. When he gets our he’ll probably do it again. Because nobody bothers to really monitor these people it seems. A group like this would’ve noticed and done something that would’ve actually stopped the cycle of abuse. Because it’ll only continue now.

Why do they do it? ...sexual abuse is considered by psychologists to be a form of addictive behaviour. So why do people become addicted to anything? Because they're highly traumatised people. A very high percentage of addicts have been sexually abused and if they haven't, then they have usually been abused in some other way. Addiction is a persons attempt to self-medicate their own trauma. Thus the trauma becomes the addiction and the abused becomes the abuser. Its a cycle of abuse. I would strongly recommend following the work of Dr Gabor Mate who specialises in trauma and addiction.

Stuck in my head ever since. People like the gentleman in this video are true, legitimate heroes. They don't always see themselves that way but it's the truth.
