I colorized, restored and created a sound design for this video of San Francisco 1930s, exploration of Downtown, Market Street, ferries, the Golden Gate Bridge, iconic buildings, California Street, cable cars and More .
Video Restoration Process:
✔ FPS boosted to 60 frames per second
✔ Image resolution boosted up to HD
✔ Improved video sharpness and brightness
✔ Colorized only for the ambiance (not historically accurate)
✔added sound design only for the ambiance
✔restoration:(stabilisation,denoise,cleand,deblur)
Please, be aware that colorization colors are not real and fake, colorization was made only for the ambiance and do not represent real historical data.

The sunken ship @7:28 was one of three small freighters (SS Ohioan, SS Lyman Stewart, or SS Frank Buck) which went down in the fog a few years prior to this film. The engine block seen here is still visible during low tide.

6:43 I grimly enjoyed the billboard sign showing the progress of the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. $35 MILLION? That wouldn't buy you a single footing of a bridge like that today.

Ah yes, cue the "good ole days" garbage. Good old days that never actually existed, but racists and people with their heads in the sand like to pretend existed. The video, even with restoration, lacks detail. You cannot see the little bits of trash, the peeling paint, the cracks in the pavement, etc. The best technology of the time will never show any of that, so everything gets a coating of vaseline that makes it look cleaner. Also missing are the thousands of people living in poverty in that era, a far greater percentage than now. Oh and let's not forget that if you were anything other than a white christian male you were a second class citizen. We can all love watching these old videos, but let's not lose sight of the fact that life today is exponentially better for just about everyone.

It looks like the Bay Bridge is fairly complete (@ 3:55), which opened November 12th, 1936. The Golden Gate Bridge is still very much under construction, which opened May 27th, 1937. The film must have been shot in the window between Fall of '36 and very early in '37 at the latest.

Nass, Love your videos. Why do you spoil your fans so? Haha. I Love the 1930's and 1940's time period. The cars, and the way everybody dressed up so nice, even the kids. Look at the couple at 1:47 nearest camera. The lady with the furs coat. Very elegant. I have been to San Francisco once as a kid and loved it. New York City and San Francisco are my favorite American cities. Thanks for the upload.

Yes, the area in the film is not as clean, but the Mission Bay area by the new UCSF campus and Chase Center is clean. Newer parts of the city are clean, so it is not all dirty.

I am fairly sure that these are two different film sequences, possibly shot on different cameras. The first which ends around 2:28 is clearly much earlier based on the style of clothes and the cars. I would date that to 1929 or very early 1930s at the latest. Based on the cars, improved film quality, and clothing, the second was shot later. But probably before 1937 as the Golden gate Bridge appears to still be under construction.

Interesting to see what was on block at California/Jones before the Masonic Auditorium. The film showing the completed Bay Bridge was late 30's, while the Golden Gate was early to mid-30s. Nice seeing all those working fishing boats. Only a handful left now.

Virtually all food products are "processed" one way or another. Canned goods were more than common during that time. Kraft boxed mac and cheese first made the market during the Depression. You are right about the exercise. Obesity existed back then but to a lessor degree.
