Unsellables

8 жыл бұрын

Ten years of family wear and tear have left their mark on Manuela and Ramon’s four-bedroom ranch style home in Valley Stream, New York. And although the couple wants to downsize, the sagging property has been on the market for nearly two years and they’re stuck in real estate limbo. Property expert Sofie Allsopp explains that while they think their home is move-in ready, the outdated décor, worn wallpaper and over-the-top paint colors are sending potential buyers running for the hills. Sofie comes up with a dramatic design plan that includes a basement overhaul and gets the entire family involved in turning the house from unsellable to sold.

It's always funny when the homeowners get offended at the comments about their style and colour choices. You are not selling your home (emotions, memories), you are selling your house, a tangible product. Your home (emotions and memories) goes with you.

When I sold my home last year I painted it all white, , kept the furnishings cozy but simple, and every inch was sparkling clean, with lot's of light., and pops of color. I always made sure cinnamon wax melts were going , which the potential buyers always commented on. I got so much positive feedback that everything I did was right. Maximizing all storage is also key.

@@dianeschenkelberg8270 They said their older kids will be moving out. So a family of 5 will become a family of 3. As for the the size, in the northeast houses are smaller. It’s too bad that these shows are so staged and scripted…the “open house” people, and homeowners, say exactly the same things that Sophie does when she’s looking around. Would love just an honest show, for once. It doesn’t look like many of these homes actually sell after the renovations either. GREAT FAMILY! Really hope everything works out for them.

They sometimes do mention the sale or offers that occurred after the ‘transformation’. I suspect that knowing what the ‘open house’ people will say is Sophie’s main talent. There is no way for the show to ‘force’ a seller accept an offer after the makeover, so the owners may hold out for a higher price, once they see how nice the makeover turned out.
