The song “Unser liebe Fraue vom kalten Brunnen” is a fictional Landsknecht song. Its melody was very popular in the 16th century and was sung to various secular and sacred texts. These also included some Landsknecht verses about the Mother of God "from the cold well", which, however, only became the starting point for the rewriting of further verses in the years around 1900. In this expanded form, the song was particularly widespread in the youth movement in the 20th century.
