When I played in 2013-2014 I had a peaceful world which had some very creepy things happen. Random things popping up creeper holes everywhere (it was peaceful) zombie noises. Until one day as I went to sleep in my Minecraft bed I heard lava rumbling below. I got out of my bed. Dug three blocks down and saw lava. I deleted it on the spot. Just thought this related to your post about peaceful!

I know I'm two years late but back when I was a kid I was absolutely terrified of the "Herobrine" sightings and was afraid he was in my world. I was so scared I would think I seen him in the corner of my eye. However now that I'm older and know its just a myth, I have a theory. I think "Herobrine" was meant to be a neighbour npc that you could visit or perhaps someone you meet on your journeys and they offer to assist you with your tasks like they'd hold torches in the caves or help with battles and would leave you once you no longer needed them.

The only weird thing that has happened in my years of playing is one time, I was digging out a room in a mountain for a base (not very big, just a 9 X 9 area) I left to go do something else (I think I was looking for a igloo?) and when I came back, a whole other room was dug out at the back of the room, a 6 X 2 room with stairs leading down to it. When I was 10 or something, I built one of those “Herobrine spawner/summoner” things, I tried to hunt down Herobrine, but of course he doesn’t exist so I got bored. Then I built a random shack with villagers and used them as bait, then I deleted the world and created a new one to try hunting Herobrine again. And I found the same shack with villagers. I still have no idea what that was about, maybe I deleted the wrong world, but I saw the same shack after I deleted it, and I made a new world.

Something similar happened to me. I had this survival world had a base with a beacon. Went mining only to not ever find my base again. Yeah sad i know. So I just deleted the world. Couple months later i made a new world in creative mode just to fool around. Couple hours in i saw what looks to be a beacon light. So i went towards it. I think that if Herobrine is in the game, it has an extremely rare spawn chance. That is, if it is a mob capable of being in multiple worlds at once, or a mob at all. What if Herobrine a singular, unique, and distinctive entity that can only exist in one players world at a time. This would explain why sightings of the anomaly are slim to none. The fortress is his most recent castle, while the bastion is his first ever one. It wasn’t discovered until 1.16 since Herobrine held the newer Nether mobs captive and made them his servants, while covering the place in 40 million blocks of Netherrack. He also had a portal leading to the Crimson and warped biomes. One day, a fellow piglin decided to run and escape. Luckily, he knew how to make an overworld-to-Nether portal and successfully escaped. It wasn’t feeling right, and then he turned into a zombified piglin. Any won’t he touched (that was a piglin) was zombified. Not that it’s bad or anything, but the zombie pigmen evolved into the zombified piglin, bringing the pigmen species to extinction. However, Herobrine figured out what happened and escaped the Nether. He started gathering more obsidian, and made even more portals to take over the overworld. While creating portals, the ground started runbling around him and the crimson and warped booms started surrounding his bastion through the portal but not reaching the overworld as the portal slowly breaks and cripples down to what we know as today, a ruined portal. Nowadays, he cruises around, looking for souls to devour and loot their gear. But he now lives in _The Far Lands..._ He is possibly doomed there forever, or stuck in the Nether wastes again.

We ran screaming and whenever we turned around we saw he was closer but I don’t think we saw him move. My theory goes with yours, Dream. But mine extends a little. I think that yes, Herobrine is a glitch, and every update, Mojang would try and remove Herobrine. But, when they fixed his glitch, they would open up another glitch, through which he would again pop out into players' worlds. This kept going on till 1.16, when they finally patched his glitch with perfection, not leaving another glitch for him to appear with. And this happened just coincidentally around Herobrine's 10-Year Anniversary.
