I recall, very clearly, when I was 16 I went to a coin shop with some silver coins and some other 'hard-to-come-by' coins. The 'man' behind the counter said they were worthless aside from face. I had never felt so crushed. He offered me face value cash. Stupidly, I took it. Turns out, in retrospect, of course I had been duped. It made me turn away from collecting. Now, 21 years later, I have rediscovered that same drive to find and save special coins, and it's because of people like you. Thank you Blue Ridge SilverHound.

I think a lot of people hit this wall from local short-sighted shops looking for a quick buck. I had 1909, 1917, 1918, 1919, etc and other pennies of various qualities in my hands over the years, but were told early on that these were only worth face value, so I never bothered keeping them.

I do agree the coin shop owners that do that is bad for the hobby and hurts it. I am glad you are back getting into there are some good coin shop owners out there. I will refer you to a good one he has a KZbin channel Coinhelpu is the you tube channel very knowledgeable and honest. He also has a link to shop online at his store on his channel posted or pinned.

Like u I cherish a lot of the 65 to 84ish quarters. I have found a lot in excellent condition and put them to the side. I've never had any graded but u do have me excited about it. Idk if it's where I'm from (small town WV) but I've been going to the bank and getting stuff u wouldn't normally get in bigger areas.

I have a 1970 quarter that's an incredible error coin. The front, or obverse has cuds, die cracks and and a double mint mark. The back has a big spitting, or spewing eagle. There's doubling on the lettering on the bottom of the the quarter, and an extra leaf. As you would say" How cool is that"?

I found 3 raw '76 P ddo ddr quarters. One has the date tripled, once to the left and once to the right. Too Kool. And 1 raw '76 D ddo ddr quarter.

Hi Shaun, Glad to hear you're doing better. I was going threw my 70's quarters when I came upon something unusual. On the reverse of a 71 quarter, there is an indentation going threw quarter dollar. on further investigation, I discovered it ran the circumference of the coin and was the exact circumference of a penny. Have you run across anything like this?

Hey Sean, nice video. I'll have to go back and re-inspect my 1970's because I have quite a few of them that came out nice and glossy after having cleaned them, especially the two bicentennials. My eyes require a strong magnifier which I neglected to use the first time around. Apart from that, I think the 1960's and 1970's Washington Quarters really STAND OUT both in texture and quality in comparison with the subsequent clad quarters of the late eighties and nineties. Thanks for the tips on what to keep a sharp eye on, especially the double die varieties. P.S. Are you saying the 60's and 70's clad quarters have little value beyond face unless they have mint errors?

Pretty sure I just found a 1999 p ddo nickel. According to variety vista and Brian's variety coins who works for wexlers as the buckle guy, there are no doubled dies from 99 . so thats neat.
