My problem tends to be that I keep starting new projects and have trouble with completion, so this year I’ve really been focusing on one project at a time - but appreciating how this method is helping you stay flexible and creative. Can’t wait to see how that wall piece unfolds!

I realized that I work longer and stronger if I have anywhere, two to five different explorations with my stitching and painting. Self love is something I continually work toward. I was brought up to always be the nurturing one, never with unconditional love and it took years of therapy to make the internal changes needed so that I could honestly say that I like myself now. It was a long process that I continue on the road to love.

You know what? It reminds me of those famous people living those appartments at NYC putting these on a frame, or just putting these on a table, with some "expensive" collection of statues....it's this valuable!!! I love them!!!TFS

I enjoy seeing your process. Like others , space and time help me complete my vision. I am very much a process person. Knowing when just stop, or even wanting to stop can be hard. So when I think I might be finished I set a project aside . Eventually it will tell me what it needs. Thanks so much for sharing all of your experiences with us.

When you put the chicken wire on the back, you might want to add some stuffing in the indents to keep it from being pushed back flat. Then back that section so the stuffing doesn't fall out. It is a beautiful piece. Judy

I am very much enjoying your videos. They speak to me in a language that feeds my soul. I am learning self-care and self-prioritisation more than ever in my life. The ability to say no or I simply don’t want to, without the need for explanation is my new mode of being. And, of course, not being bothered if someone else is bothered by my choices.

Good morning Ariane. Another good and helpful video. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for being you and for sharing. I made it thru the one self love book which helped me a lot. I haven’t worked on the second yet. Unfortunately, I can’t really create at the moment (had thumb surgery Nov 20) but, it was part of taking care of myself so I can create with less pain in the future! I admire and adore you! ❤😊

Hi Ariane~~~Wonderful video. If my Studio were larger, I might have more that one project going at a time, but it is not so that limits my departure from the "whatnows" to wander over to another piece in the works. So when I get at an impasse of the ole "whatnow", I need to walk away and leave the room if staring at it is only producing frustration. It's better to walk away, go bake cookies, clean the bathroom, read, embroider, just DO something else.......sometimes it might be hours, or it might be the next day...............and then come back with "new eyes". That usually works for me. For your piece, there are a couple of things that [with my eyes] I would change [after all of these years, this is the only piece where I feel this way]..........take out that small lime green horizontal piece on the left and take out one of the large circles on the bottom. Give it an odd number of them.........either one whole one and parts of another whole.......or just parts of both wholes, but not two complete wholes. Their scale seems to mess with my grey matter. I can't seem to focus/appreciate the rest of the work because my eyes are struggling to leave there and appreciate the rest of the piece. Regarding self care...........what a huge 2 minutes of self-care-beef-jerky to chew on. Nurturing for others [or my home itself........aka: housework] comes "natural" if not expected and comprises a huge part of my daily life. But self-nurturing has been wrong for all of the reasons that you've stated. Two weeks ago, I actually found myself asking moi..........if you were given a choice to chose "something" that would "nurture" you, that would be a huge warm fuzzy for you, what would it be?????????? DANG almighty, I couldn't think of anything. I thought........buying myself flowers...........nope............taking myself on a Julia-Cameron's-Artist's-date.........maybe, but where??? what would be the spark???? For me, I think that nurturing myself right now, well, it would need to make a lightbulb go off. It's a whole lot more than a soothing bath..........or a cup of tea and a good book. I think that it's gotta be a lightbulb moment of sorts, and yet I still don't know what that would be. OIYABUNGA. Dilemma. So when you presented this to us.........I found myself nodding my head in agreement with everything that you were saying........but still no answer personally. I guess that I need to think on this.

@@alicemoline698 thx Alice. Interesting suggestions. ❤️ As far as the self care goes… this is something I’ve been working on for awhile now. I was over a year before I came into my studio, sat down to work and then realized all that doubt and self recrimination had lifted. At first I wondered if it was a one time deal but then when, day after day I found myself reveling in the joy of just creating, I saw that things had begun to shift. But this is the result of over a year of daily work. But it’s been so worth it! 💕❤️

@@ArianeZurcher212 I have watched/followed you through this heartbreaking and agonizing process and working through grief as well. And I gloried with you when you came out the other side after 2 years. I find JOY in creating, in playing with fabric and colors and creating new one-of-a-kind pieces. BUT that said........I can sense that there is still a "piece missing" and I feel that that piece has something to do with self-care. But I can't quite put my finger on it and I don't know how to search it out.

Hi Ariane. I have one question. Where do I start. I love everything you do so I would love anything you suggest. I’ll tell you a lil of my artistic journey so you might be able to tap into where I should start. I would love to hear all about your journey. I am a potter, sculptor, quilter (made 20 hand stitched self-designed during COVID). I also paint on canvas and love texture. I absolutely love color and relish your color palette 🥰. I loved your video on painting on cloth. My mediums ranged from pottery glazes to acrylics, gauche, mica powders, pearlescent, alcohol inks a d inks. So Ariane I would appreciate so much your suggestion and guidance. Am willing to become a patron. I just love your honesty, openness and willingness to help others. Bless you. Cyndi

Hi Cynthia, thanks so much for reaching out. I shut down my patreon page because it was way too stressful trying to keep up and provide new content for everyone. But here are a couple thoughts (and a video) Start with where you are. In other words start with what you love and are good at. Then try adding one new element. Something you've not used before. Approach this with curiosity and not expectations that whatever you do is going to be exactly what you see in your mind. Keep playing and exploring. Eventually you'll start to develop your own unique style and sense of what speaks to you. This is an old video that I made before I was incorporating mixed media into my work, but the basic ideas remain the same. Just skip the intro where I'm describing all the workshops I'm teaching because they're all over and I don't have any new workshops lined up right now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYHGpaGQi85qsNEsi=DXrpAi4LMV8JAMnq Try to be as fearless as you can be when approaching your work. Experiment, experiment, experiment!❤
