Nice lectures! Just one comment on this one: you can use counter++ as a value as well. It is a postcrement so it will return the original value while setting the counter to the next one. ++counter would return the new value as it is a precrement.

too true sadly about australian conservatism. had oz had a gay war hero of such great contribution they could well have been persecuted also. but that in no sense excuses the utterly shameful treatment he received. mechanical or electric makes no difference as to whether it is a "computer" (indeed the theme of this lecture!) eg babbage's analytical engine was more a computer than colossus was. turing contributed to the automation of computation but did not build a computer at bletchley park
