I'm surprised how close it is to a purely resistive load it is. I calculated the effective resistance with R = V^2/P for various points during the video from 240V to 500V and it came out to be 33 ohms +/- 1.5 the whole time until it started to fail

You doing this with one of these death traps is significantly safer than how they were often used in bed sitting rooms and children's bedrooms in the 60s and 70s. Quite possibly the second most dangerous heating device of all time, only narrowly beaten by paraffin heaters. I have to be honest you have the coolest house I can remember seeing.

I would suggest a 240 volt variant of a vape. maybe use some heavy gauge industrial wire wound into a coil and use fiberglass as a wick. Throw some ejuice on it and pop it.
