I once lived about a block away from a cemetery in Northern California that served as a deer refuge. If you haven't walked through literally hallowed ground while surrounded by century-plus-old stone sculptures and families of deer, I strongly recommend it. The way those animals interact with their environment-alternately exploring, with curiosity and caution, or relaxing in small social groups in the sun-is uncanny.

contrary to popular belief, graveyards are actually a very peaceful place.

A somber walk past the tombstones in a setting sun, chatting with those who have since departed to hear their stories of what it's like in the life after this. This would be perfect for Halloween, and all of autumn as the leaves fall and the weather cools.

The best books and films for children are those with a dark atmosphere. Coraline, Monster House, Tim Burton's animations and especially The Secret Garden... I always love that what makes me melancholic and gives me this dark, beautiful and magical atmosphere.

A perfectly great way to spend a Saturday night at your local haunted graveyard. Now whom shall we raise? I'm sure they are willing to come back for more... ⚰ Ruby* P.S. This is seriously spine-chilling and ominous. Love it and thank you. Have a macabre Sunday, 😉...

"It was in the soft glow of late afternoon that I first entered the vault on the abandoned slope. A spell was upon me, and my heart leaped with an exultation I can but ill describe. As I closed the door behind me and descended the dripping steps by the light of my lone candle, I seemed to know the way; and though the candle sputtered with the stifling reek of the place, I felt singularly at home in the musty, charnel-house air."
