Untold Pacific History - Season 2 Episode 1: The Forgotten Soldiers Of Niue

This is the little known story of The Forgotten Soldiers of Niue. One hundred and fifty men who were plucked from their island paradise and sent 17,000kms away to the cold frontlines of France during World War I.
The Niuean soldiers however never made it to the frontline, and were instead to die en route with the abrupt introduction to diseases that they had never been exposed to.
Leki Jackson Bourke takes us on a journey back to Niue and back through history to discover why these men went to fight and die for a war they didn’t understand, for a King they didn’t know. He discovers the incredible legacy this has left on Niue as well as his own special connection to these men and this war.

Thank you for this. I visited Niue bout 20 years ago. I walked to the chasm and ladder. I wanted to ask you if anything happened there in history. I felt wrong for being there and I felt like people were watching me and following me, but when I looked, there was nobody. Just wondered that's all. I just had a feeling that I shouldn't be there at that cave. Sorry if this sounds silly.but just wanted to find out more history of that place.
