Thank you Shiv for this video. PJ Thakur and I go a long way back to the National Defence Academy being from the same 55th Course, in fact both of us got relegated on the same day and on the same medical grounds on injuries sustained while undergoing training. PJ is a very reticent person, also known for his bluntness and getting him to do the show was a great piece of "persuasion" by you. He had spoken to me often of this mission but was very uncomfortable in sharing it further. It was great of Air Marshal Raghu Nambiar to have mentioned PJ's contribution in the manner that he did, when you had interviewed him earlier (I saw it). All the very best!

Thanks Ash for the kind words. I know you tried to push me to atleast tell this to coursemates, but somehow the grey cells were not willing ,I presume due to still thinking the Foxbat was still classified. You and me go a long way back. It's been my privilege to have been your friend. God bless. Thanks to Shiv & Nambi to make me open up.

Back at Barreily in 2005 my father was posted to No.35 sqn with MiG-21 type 96,who shared the base with no.102 Trisonics with MiG-25s ,Foxbats were common in skies over Barreily carrying out recce,etc.etc.,just by hearing the sound of the engines one could clearly tell that it was the Foxbat rolling down the tarmak,we were posted to the base for 3 good years but i never got an opportunity to see the aircraft while it was standstill ie.parked for public viewing,we only saw the fishbeds and flogger during a public display ,even that was restricted for any civillian ,i have met a couple of ex-trisonics and let me tell you they had tons of stories to tell about this aircraft,Thank you Shiv for this video ,and i really appreciate your efforts.....Happy Landings and Jai Hind🇮🇳🇮🇳

During my tenure in the IAF, I was very fortunate to have been able to sit in the cockpit of this wonderful aircraft. I had happened to have gone there on duty and, as is said in this video, even serving Air Force personnel were not allowed to even enter the squadron area unless authorised to do so. Luckily the officer posted there had earlier worked under my dad, so he allowed me a peek into the cockpit of this aircraft. Fond memories

@@manishtripathi7050 Nobody would ever describe the MiG-25 as lightweight. It's a very heavy airframe with stainless steel construction that carries around 30,000lb of internal fuel. Take-off weight with missiles is over 80,000lb. Empty weight is over 44,000lb. It's a beast of an airplane with very low thrust to weight ratio.

Having known PJ at Halwara (Where I was an ATC Officer) , and later having learnt my first lesson on Foxbat imaging V/H principles from PJ, I wasn't surprised at Air HQ (where I was heading IMINT), it was PJ who did the Gr8 mission that spilled the PAK beans over the hill. Shiv thank you for bringing the Mig-25 story like the SR-71 was a very complicated aircraft to fly mainly testing the envelope of flying high speed & air frame heating up .Mig-25 was born to go against the North American XB-70 Valkyrie nuclear-armed, deep-penetration strategic bomber for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. Designed in the late 1950s by North American Aviation (NAA), the six-engined Valkyrie was capable of cruising for thousands of miles at Mach 3+ while flying at 70,000 feet (21,000 m).Which never really took off but Mig25 Foxbat did .Reconnaissance aircraft/pilots have been replaced by satellites now drones which can send real time images to a base. In May 1997, an Indian Air Force Mikoyan MiG-25RB reconnaissance aircraft created a furor when the pilot flew faster than Mach 3 over Pakistani territory following a reconnaissance mission into Pakistan airspace.The MiG-25 broke the sound barrier while flying at an altitude of around 20,000 m (65,000 ft), otherwise the mission would have remained covert, at least to the general public. Believed that the Foxbat photographed strategic installations near the capital, Islamabad.

XB-70 were flying and one of them crashed midair in test flight. After that disaster program was cancelled. Regarding 1997 incident as far as i know it was in 1996 and pilot did sonic boom over Islamabad airspace. Pakistan never complained because if they do then it would reveal their weakness. While, IAF never uttered a word. Foxbats flew over Pakistani airspace like visiting a public garden.
@mig882001
@mig882001 4 жыл бұрын
@@Aksharbhavsar The introduction of the first Soviet surface-to-air missiles in the late 1950s put the near-invulnerability of the B-70 in doubt. In response, the United States Air Force (USAF) began flying its missions at low level, where the missile radar's line of sight was limited by terrain. In this low-level penetration role, the B-70 offered little additional performance over the B-52 it was meant to replace, while being far more expensive with shorter range. Other alternate missions were proposed, but these were of limited scope. With the advent of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) during the late 1950s, manned bombers were increasingly seen as obsolete. The USAF eventually gave up fighting for its production and the B-70 program was canceled in 1961. Development was then turned over to a research program to study the effects of long-duration high-speed flight. As such, two prototype aircraft, designated XB-70A, were built; these aircraft were used for supersonic test-flights during 1964-69. In 1966, one prototype crashed after colliding with a smaller aircraft while flying in close formation; the remaining Valkyrie bomber is in the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio The aircraft entered Pakistani airspace sub-sonically (below the speed of sound) at around 65,000 ft and was undetected," says Spyflight. "Then having overflown and photographed strategic installations near the capital, Islamabad, the aircraft turned back towards India. Perhaps to rub the Pakistanis' noses in it, the Foxbat pilot decided to accelerate up to Mach 2 and dropped a large sonic boom as he exited Pakistani airspace. A number of PAF F-16As were scrambled, but had insufficient time to make an effective intercept." India denied the incident but the then Pakistani Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan believed that the Foxbat photographed strategic installations near Islamabad. Air Power International says the Pakistan government considered the breaking of the sound barrier a deliberate act - to make the point that the PAF had no aircraft in its inventory which could come close to the cruising height of the MiG-25.

Shiv did the iaf possess interceptor versions of the foxbat or only recce versions? The foxfire radar on the mig25 in its hayday was considered amongnst the best The americans were pretty concerned till a soviet defector landed one in japan which allowed them to review it in detail

Great video, fantastic insight. Do hope for more videos like this where maybe some light can be thrown over the Foxbats missions over Pak or Tibet.

I have heard sonic booms several timed in the sky above the town named Pilibhit which is located 40km NE of Trishul Airbase. May be Foxbats were being flown towards Tibet for Rec. opr on PLA.

Sir, Please make a video on operation apache (2001) of indian army. Really less people know about it, even on youtube there are only 2 videos about it.

Usually Shiv Aroor gets to the point quick but this time he bored me with unwanted information rather than concentrating on the aircraft itself

Thanks for the feedback. Noted. Though, this wasn’t meant to be a video about the aircraft itself, rather a mission that hasn’t been spoken about before. We’ll get better ✌🏽

Shiv, I just love your videos, I would highly request if you could do an analysis on India's current inventory of fighters and the ones coming in...Specially a lot of negativity shrouds the Tejas with some declaring it a failed fighter... Could u kindly clear the air on the Tejas and it's capabilty by running a comparison with the other fighters in the neighborhood like JF17, J20 etc... Would really appreciate it..🙏👍
@thesidd19
@thesidd19 4 жыл бұрын
Tejas is far better in very capability compared to JF17(chinese fc1), jf17 doesn't even have a quad axis fbw tech and it is not even an unstable design.
