Brilliant discussion. I love the clarification of the context of the "Don't touch God's anointed" admonition. "No i wasn't trying to kill you." It's so refreshing to hear an open, thoughtful discussion on this. Thanks.

21:14 We had an assistant pastor who would meet with each person in leadership separately and speak what someone else said about them. That way everyone was mad at each other but all saw him as the good guy that cared about them. Yet, he did this to destroy all relationships so no one could group against his bad behavior on other issues. He effectively destroyed all relationships as a power move that everyone was bad but him.

I remember going through deliverance through a specific ministry & they said that there was spiritual abuse done to me in the reference of spiritual rape. I had never heard that before but to hear you say this affirms truly what was being said to me & really the level of deliverance & healing I had to walk through to be free from the trauma I walked through at the hands of many leaders "spiritual fathers & mothers" I sat under. So thankful for these podcasts that are giving words to what ive experienced & removed the "demonization " title that has been placed on me 💯 the guilt,shame & trauma is so real 💯💯💯 God bless you guys honestly🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊

Recently when visiting a friend's church while out of town, a young man had just finished his military time and was talking about what he felt like God wanted him to do next and I was encouraging him to follow the Holy Spirit- the Pastor overheard me and said that I was ministering to him and that's not allowed by anyone but Staff. I told him I was having a conversation but he insisted that only him and the Staff can talk about the Lord with others. Talk about a control freak!

Definately do a word study on the "one another" passages in Scripture. Talk with the pastors about what you have discovered and if thy continue in their belief, find another church.

I had a friend who was a leader in my church three decades ago. He and his wife went for counseling with the lead pastor about what they were seeing and feeling about some things in the church. Being in leadership, they were aware of the inner workings of the church. The pastor ended up manipulating their words and turning it around to be their fault for the issues. They left the church wounded deeply. They ended up in a divorce, neither of them to the best of my knowledge ever went back to church. This pastor was a master at manipulation of words. Then, when people left, they were usually labeled as troublemakers-a great catch all phrase if I ever heard one. We too were wounded by this pastor. It took several years to work through it all. Lots of forgiveness was needed.

We left the church after a lifetime of going plus serving for 30 years in an official capacity. 20 years in the Vineyard. After 10 years away we returned only to come under a super controlling pastor. Not asking to serve in our gifts, we couldn’t even clean the toilets. We were told NO about 10 times. He did t like us even bringing donuts. Maybe because we weren’t members. We were shunned by the young pastor. The small church couldn’t assimilate anyone. My husband is a teacher who taught the book of Matthew over two years - line by line. Never once did we offer to serve in a leadership capacity. We are almost 70. The pastor wants to do everything. God had us stay for a year. We were gaslighted and left after a year. Can’t believe we stayed that long but we were finally released. God was teaching us about love. And I believe we were a lesson for them but I don’t think they learned anything. The young people have a secret Bible Study not announced at church because they intrinsically know the young pastor will control it. Now we are in a house church and they love us. And we love them. So much assimilation that we need to divide up soon. 😊 Our conclusion: the system is flawed. The wineskin won’t stretch. We need a more biblical model. God will soon shake everything that can be shaken. He loves his bride.

This is so so good!! This same stuff happened to me for years! And I said a lot of the same things Michael says. Perhaps it was my Jewish upbringing as well, that gave me clarity. I also cannot ignore the elephant in the room! Like the kid who spoke out “The Emperor has no clothes!” This was still so healing for me.

I worked under such pastor in Central America for 15 years! He was divorced and he slept with several women in the church and outside. He tried to seduce me and then he retaliated because I would not sleep with him. However, as sick as that was, the most hurtful thing was to come back home after serving there and not finding the support I needed from my pastors here. And this man is still going around doing the same thing. Thank you so much for exposing this and speaking openly about it. God bless you!

I attended a church in the 80s as a brand new Christian where the Pastor was sleeping with several women in the church. Once it was discovered he was taken back to the church who sent him and “restored”. Then sent out again to repeat his abuse several more times. We were told after the fact he had done it before coming to our church. This has been going on for years with full knowledge of the churches and Peers who “restore” then send them out again. While congregations are destroyed with no care for their healing or restoration. Our only instructions were not to talk about it as that would be gossip, and to forgive quickly before anger and bitterness set in. Always without full knowledge of what actually happened or who was involved. As that would be “Touching Gods Anointed” My newly saved family was never the same again.

This discussion is saving my life! I asked God to make things clear to me because it is very deceptive and confusing when dealing with Church leaders who use their position of authority in the church as a weapon of destruction. Or projects or guilt tactics in order to deny and hide the real truth of the behaviour they act out towards anyone who tries to bring correction or an opinion that hurts the ego or position of authority. Truth! This is God putting it right in front of me clear and direct answer to my prayer for clarity and wisdom. I fear though shedding the light on my truth. I dont feel safe but i trust and in faith that God will deal with it for me or guide me in the responsible way to share in order to put a stop to the abuse and dangerous mentality that has crept into the church! Its a sickness and a very deceptive one. Its almost impossible to bring a leader to active repentance if the narcasdistic traits involved. This is not the temple God reqiested for us to build for him to worship Him. Church is where the presence of God is welcome and invited and not grieved! Its essential for abuse to not be tolerated. More of us need to speak up and put what is hidden in the dark into the light or we will see many fall away from believing in Jesus!

Yes. They want you vulnerable to use it as leverage. But in their heart they haven’t discovered the true meaning of relationship. And so they demonstrate God as being permanently distant and disproving.

Hello Shean, it's very kind and gracious of you to want to bring certain things like this to church leadership. But it may not work, due to them maybe not wanting to change. It's very clear now that these kinds of church leaders have a selfish, self serving agenda, and are likely to attack anyone who threatens that, psychologically and spiritually. I'd suggest you make absolutely sure you must do this. I'd also suggest you find support elsewhere and do all you can to protect yourself, your family etc. If you do approach these people they may well warn other church members to be careful, wary of you, or to stay away from you. I'm learning the importance of having resources elsewhere in the country, even abroad, people I can turn to for prayer and support. I'm completely isolated now and have no real friends. Sometimes I go supermarket shopping during the evenings, when I'm less likely to encounter some of them. Feels safer. To be honest this is a form of warfare and survival. We have to be on guard against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
@susandumbill8805
@susandumbill8805 6 ай бұрын
@@brinamarie9525Yes, vulnerable to them is precisely what they also want. I think they love it. But it's funny how God allows some of us to wake up, realize what's really happening - and get out, then stay out AND survive! They must hate that. But another thing is for sure - their agendas and resulting behaviour and abuses are all coming out into the open now, and they just can't hide so much any more. I just hope more people get free. I hope too that God strengthens those church leaders and their churches who ARE genuine, safe, caring and responsible.

Omg you said it perfectly. “Condemning.” That’s it 👏🏼 🎤. They’re ‘word’ people with correction readily waiting at the tip of their tongue for everyone but themselves. They make the rules. They’re not followers of the Fruit. They recite the word and act in a way that man will notice them while they gain powerful favor of God Himself. They’re living in a fantasy world.

Real talk 👏🏼. I have watched countless big namers with false humility who boast of their calling above all, they defensively boast that they’re prophetic, they boast or hire someone to boast of them being a general in the faith, but I’ve yet to see them display a single Fruit 🍎 of the Spirit. No joy. No patience for others. No love. No kindness. Shouting somehow increases their authority in their mind and don’t see it as the intimidation it is. You can speak a favorable word over them but you can’t correct them even though their entire ministry is surrounded by their idea that God set them on high above all and everyone must listen to them immediately or we will all be disobedient to God’s spoken Word.

This has been so good.Thank you for addressing these issues. I ‘ve walked through these very things. It’s amazing when you can leave a church and nobody cares to follow through to see why you left. Silencing is a big thing . I wholeheartedly agree with what your guest shared regarding the difference between gossip and sharing your story. It’s so disingenuous to the rest of the body to not let them know what’s transpired…. It can be a healthy thing for the church…. a learning place But that takes maturity….it’s also sad that those in the pew follow blindly by not finding out what actually took place. It’s as if you never existed….. whatever narrative is presented is assumed to be accurate. I said the very same thing your guest shared….if they label it gossip then they silence any other dialogue. or dissent.When you have nothing to hide you allow for open dialogue. But sad to say, I’ve had to leave churches, knowing that there have been other narratives that have been promoted. I have come to the conclusion that one narrative matters and that’s what God thinks about me. That’s what I’ll be concerned with…. how I look in His eyes.

Hey some really good points and perspectives shared! I’ve also heard a lot of teaching by Dan Mohler how to not set yourself up to be hurt by others, but like Jesus hurt for them. I’m curious what you guys think about this perspective. I think in some ways it’s helped me a lot, and also sometimes been really hard. I feel like I’m praying for myself and crying for myself when someone does something wrong to me rather than crying for them you know? It seems right to cry for them but I don’t know how to get my heart there sometimes. I feel I’ve tried to. Some pointers I liked that you made that I want to think and pray about more are: that gossip is not always what people think it is and it’s okay to share your perspectives about others when they’re not around. I don’t want to be biased or cause someone to have a bad perspective on them in an unfair way. Also the stories of abusive situations with leaders I think will help me to understand what is potentially going on sometimes and things to look out for. Also caring more about the stories of people that just leave or are fired.

To “not touch the Lords anointed” is a misused verse to silence criticism or rebuke. The verse comes from David who had the opportunity to kill Saul but did not because God had anointed him. Rebuking leadership is not akin to killing them. Paul publicly rebuked Peter and others who were in error.

Regarding the definition of gossip given in this video, I think that it might correct some errors while simultaneously creating other errors. I believe the definition of gossip given near the end of the video was something like "gossip is when you are talking about someone with the intent of punishing them." This is problematic because I think there are many people who participate in gossip regularly without having the intent of punishing the people they're talking about. I've heard another definition given which is also imperfect but covers some of the gaps: "talking about someone else when you aren't part of the problem or part of the solution." That at least covers the scenario where two people are filling each other in on all of the spicy rumors that are going around about various other people. I don't believe the definition Michael gave would cover that at all, but it absolutely is gossip. I also think that the use of the Matthew 18 passage was dismissed too quickly. It was talked about in terms of just approaching the individual, but it is a progression that involves bringing progressively more people into the conversation, eventually including the church body. I realize that there are some times when it may not be safe to approach the individual, but I other times I think Matthew 18 is a very valid method to apply. I also think that someone can simultaneously have a legitimate complaint and be stuck in bitterness. I think it's critical that they steadfastly pursue the healing of their heart. Maybe steps need to be taken in the meantime to protect other people, in which case I guess proceed with caution in the pursuit of justice, but in general I think it's very dangerous to pursue justice from a place of bitterness. It's all too easy for "justice" to turn into "vengeance" in that scenario. I don't know Michael, so I might be completely mistaking his tone, but if I had to diagnose what I was hearing without knowing any of the details of what happened, him being in a place of bitterness would be an immediate concern of mine, just from the sound of his voice in parts of this interview. I hope I'm wrong about that. I'm certainly not dismissing his story, and I don't really know anything about what he experienced other than what has been mentioned in these two podcasts. But based solely on what was said in these two podcasts and the tone of voice it was said in, in my ignorance of the situation I would be wanting to encourage Michael to get completely healed in his heart with regard to this matter before pursuing recompense or justice any further. As an example of someone who sounds very healthy when talking about something horrible that they went through, I would recommend listening to Sean Smith tell some of his testimony. He experienced horrible injustice in his family, of the type that altered the course of his life, but I don't hear even the slightest bit of bitterness in his voice when he talks about it. It is truly amazing to me.

Thanks. Not everyone has been called by God to be a church leader, especially in the top down types of churches where one person is in charge. In these kinds of churches, temptation to control others can be too strong for many people. Although some can handle it. Best to have a group of elders who run the church, are accountable to each other, and demonstrate Godly unity to the church.

Thanks. So many verses twisted and abused in order to perpetuate abuse and shut down discussions for improvement! Also, psychology has entered in as the standard in many cases. For instance, "non-triangulating" ... fine, but when applied might tell the pastor to straightway put the communication from the fearful to the abuser. Many other things we do and do to ourselves because we were taught that with no reference to the Bible.

I was in a shepherding church... the leader hears from God and then he tells you what to do. and it was ´TOUCH not my anointed and do my prophets no harm. Found out later this ¨ touch¨ and ¨harm¨ in the context is talking bout bodily harm. It is not talking bout sharing your concerns about what you are seeing happening... things that is not biblical. I was engaged to be married but I felt a lack of peace to marry him and the pastor made me promise not to change my mind. Thank the Lord he had not told the man not to change his mind and he did and we broke up. There were a lot of hurt people in that church... for other things that had happened. I had shared my concerns and worries with others and then I was told i was a trouble maker.

Y the structure of todays church is so far from the early church it is sad. An apostolic leader stopped the charismatic move in our area back in the seventies. Would you say that the scripture which says “Mens hearts will fail them for fear” applies to leadership today? I see it in all systems of leadership who fail to step up and listen when genuine pleas come forth. If you don't understand what Michael is talking about concerning Matthew 18 then you have never been in a powerless place and tried to address a serious issue. Its like being stripped naked on the platform on Sunday morning in front of all your friends and family and others who don't really know you.

The Apostle Paul pronounced a curse on most churches today because the main Christian denominations of today preach a different gospel than what Paul preached. To quote exactly what Paul said, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8). Both apostle Paul and Peter preached the same gospel and quote from the prophet Joel (2:32) saying, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of Yahweh shall be saved." (Romans 10:13 and Acts 2:21). The English translations say “Lord” instead of “Yahweh.” But “Lord” does not translate “Yahweh” it is a substitution of a totally different word altogether. This substitution activates two additional curses because if you substitute a word you are both adding and subtracting at the same time. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18, 19) We are commanded by Messiah that, “...repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:47). In other words, we are supposed to preach the gospel that came out of Jerusalem and not preach the gospel that came out of Antioch, or Rome, or England, or New York, or Chicago, etc. By the time the gospel got to Antioch it had already been perverted as we read, “...And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” (Acts 11:26). The problem with this is that YHWH spoke of a people called by His name (Deuteronomy 28:10; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Isaiah 43:6, 7; Daniel 9:19; Amos 9:12; Acts 15:17). YHWH did not choose the name “Christian” for Himself. The people of Antioch chose that name and all the so called main denominations of today embrace that name “Christian” for themselves. When Peter and Paul preached the gospel they quote the prophet Joel, “Whosoever shall call on the name of YHWH shall be saved.” (Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13). The English word "Lord" is not a translation for the name YHWH but is a substitution. I ask you, how many of the church fathers and so called main denominations of today preach that gospel? None of them. Absolutely none! Paul makes it very clear that the end result of him preaching the gospel was that the people would call on the name YHWH. He says in (Rom. 10:14,15), The preachers are sent. They preach. The people hear. The people believe. The people call on the name YHWH (Rom. 10:13). I ask you, how many of the church fathers and so called main denominations of today preach that gospel? None of them. Absolutely none! It took only one generation after the death of Joshua for the children of Israel to forget the mighty works of YHWH which He had worked through Moses and Joshua and to began to serve the idols of the people around them (Judges 2:7-13). It took only one generation!

I really enjoy listening to you guys toss that ball back and forth, but you can have your "leadership conferences". I don't want them! Jesus never talked about leadership. He only talked about servanthood. 'Nuff said.

I also am wary of certain types of leadership. But to be fair, Jesus actually did talk about leadership. He just emphasized that it needed to be with integrity, humility, and love.

You talking about sin that it s not forgiven... How can we sin when Jesus took it away from us ? Yes we can do wrong thing and that with our human body bequase its not born again . Our soul is born again and clean for ever. Is it Paul that struggling " i do things i do not want to do and the things i want to do i do not...And the leaders that needs to repent they dont listen to you and think they are so right but yet so wrong. All according to the gospel of America. Its more importent to not sin then accepting God GRACE.

Your view of judgement/wrath is outside of orthodoxy. I think you spent too much time in western thought or early fathers of the west rather than eastern fathers of orthodoxy. This is one of the problems. Too much Augustine.

Robby as much as I respect you I wish you would concentrate on what you do best and focus on spreading the gospel in the Middle East especially the earthquake ridden areas of Turkey and Syria. God is big enough to correct His children. The body of Christ needs to unite at this very critical moment in our nations history as we have much much bigger things to worry about. God bless

Woes to Scribes and Pharisees …23Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin. But you have disregarded the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24You blind guides! As much as you speak of being a teaching elder of the CHURCH you are showing yourself as a hypocrite. You have a cup on the desk from Starbucks. Their logo is of a goddess and they openly despise God and Christians. You are also speaking bad of others which is on the verge of gossip. Where is the glory of God in this conversation?

The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. (Rom 14:3) You cant force your own private revelation about a starbucks logo upon others in Christ as doctrine. It's wrong to judge and condem others because they don't suscribe to your own personal belief system. There is no merit in God's Word for judging others for drinking Starbucks. The scripture above contradicts judging others by what they consume. Where is the love of God in that? There is much truth and glory in this podcast. May God give you eyes to see. God bless.

@@truthseeker6410 I pray you continue to seek truth as your name implies. Research 🧐 where and why Starbucks came from. Research about the goddess it conforms to. Then speak to me. Search for truth before you judge. Seek wisdom and not opinion. God HAS opened my eyes. God HAS given me wisdom. God HAS shown me much. You may want to ask Him to open your eyes to HIS TRUTH and not the world as your eyes are on.
