I must say, after watching most of your videos, this is one of the most striking and sticks out to me. I think it's because, unlike a lot of abandoned locations that you visit, where the destruction is mostly due to vandalism and theft, this one is due purely to the elements and mould. The level of decay that the mould has caused is truly astounding. Side note: I am so glad that you guys wear protection, such as respirator masks, when going to places like this. I was especially struck by the murals and the sculptural details of all the palm fronds wrapping around the columns in the main entrance hall and decorating the ceiling. Likely a team of people did a lot of work to create such fun artistic details, and I can imagine how proud they must have been to see their designs realized and their hard work come to fruition when the hotel and casino were finished being built. Now they've long since moved on, and the world has moved on from this building... and their artwork is left as a sign that people once cared very much about this rotten, moldy, dark place. It's always so melancholy and poignant to see details like that in these abandoned structures; material proof of something as intangible and long-lost as people's effort and emotions.

I have family in the area near this Casino and I wanted to give a bit more info about this place, since I've also been here before it flooded: First, it closed because it was essentially mismanaged into the ground. They tried to advertise everywhere, but there were actually several casinos in the area and these were much nicer and seen as much better than others. The hotel was seen as super low-quality, and since the property was only about 45 minutes from the nearest major city, it was seen as more of a day trip than an actual destination by the locals. It's also definitely not a sad story, because the company that owned property was basically using the casino as a cash cow, did not care about their reputation, and more. The family that I had in the area said they visited once when it was open, and the whole place was very scummy, and the theming really felt like it was very low budget. The reason you don't see any vandalism here is actually for two reasons. First, the security is very good. There's regular patrols of the area, and if they know someone is inside the security company will call the police and have them wait for you to leave so they can legally trespass you. The access road to get here has been made impassable with big concrete barriers at the main entrance, and the whole property is fenced off. Second, there's also two casinos right next door that are still operating, and security there makes it nearly impossible to even get close to the abandoned property without getting the police called on you. Having been there in 2009, I can honestly say that it's just not worth getting arrested or legally trespassed from the area. It was just an abandoned hotel when I was there, but from this video it really looks like there was a ton of damage done in the floods and I'd imagine that the structure is actively dangerous and the level of mold and mildew makes this look like somewhere I would never visit again. Thanks for not mentioning exactly where this place is!!!

But every once in a while, a piece of metal or a bathroom vanity will fall, which loudly breaks the silence, only for the sound to not be heard by anything, and for deafening silence to fill its place immediately after, and for it to remain that way until another crash of decay breaks the silence.

It was a Christmas show (i think 2001), but if I remember correctly they built a miniature ice rink on the stage and had had a pairs team skating on it. (It was either this casino or the Beau Rivage, but I’m pretty sure it was this one). A few weeks later they advertised for a show my mom was interested in, and so she bought tickets. We showed up for the show, and they cancelled and never bothered to tell anyone, and only offered a refund after she complained. We never actually ate there or stayed in the hotel, and something always felt “off” about the place. The staff was always standoffish if not outright rude. The other casinos in the area were definitely more welcoming.

Since he didn’t mention the name of the casino or where it’s located at, it’s only speculation, but I think this was one of the many gimmick casinos in the middle of nowhere. Still to today, there are many large casino hotels that are far away from any city or town that exist as a type of “getaway” experience. Since there are no residents or other attractions in the nearby area, when the casino and theater fails to gain attendance, so does the hotel. I think the moral of the story that large, multi-million dollar hotels don’t really work long-term unless they are next to or in a well-populated area.

I can explain this actually. This is in my home state. Back in the 90's, the state allowed casino barges for the first time and many of the first were built in this town. Later, my hometown on the other end of the state began building much larger casinos after laws about casinos changed over the years. It ended up killing the demand for the this town and led to my hometown booming in size.Funny enough, but we also had a casino owned by the same company, exact same theming, and exact same name. I used to work at it actually and its still there under a different name.

I was able to find it on Google Earth after about half an hour of research. What I can tell you is it’s in Mississippi near the titular river and it doesn’t have a separate Wikipedia article. Of the 11 casinos the town it’s in once had, only 6 are still operating. At one time, it was third in the nation for highest gambling revenue, behind only Vegas and Atlantic City. But over about the past 10-15 years, it’s declined quite a bit, although I don’t really know why. The largest of all the casinos hotels, which has over 1,000 rooms and sits on a property over a mile long, has been abandoned since 2014. It’s quite an interesting story if you have the time and energy to find what place it is.

So that demonstrates moisture from a leaking roof coupled with moisture from the ground up. The place is a huge steam house. No wonder the decay is so bad. Without breathing apparatus you would get very sick after being in there I imagine. Great video and very interesting

The natural decay here is a very, VERY rare sight for something so modern and inviting for vandals. I am sitting awe struck at it. Shocks a person when you see just how much changes when people don't ruin a building. A great video for anyone to study who wants to make art, games, etc. on a modern abandoned structure.

If you get a chance, Jake, could you please make a video on the Colorado Belle Casino in Laughlin, Nevada? It closed at the start of the pandemic but was a pretty old and interesting casino. I learned to play Craps there.

It surprising actually how difficult it is to find out information about this place. I was able to find it and the name with a bit of google maps and some news articles, but guess they don’t want people knowing it exists

How where you able to find it? I’ve been searching for a while
@pocketaces6756 Жыл бұрын
@@mg77045 He gave plenty of clues. State legalized riverboat gambling in 1990. It started as Harrah's in 1993. Closed in 1997, sold in 1999 to a Caribbean themed casino company. Expanded hotel tower in 2000 and opened Flamingo Bay Theatre (at 12:09 ). A few Google searches will tell you right where it's at. I guess he doesn't want to outright say where it's at due to liability, as anyone can find it easily from his information. Don't even need Google Earth, but you can use it to see what it looks like now if you want.

If this building can be saved, this could literally be a 2000s nostalgia casino.

Many people may not realize this area was the third largest gambling destination in the entire United States at one time. Customers would come from all over central U.S. to this area, many on cross marketing offers from major casino operators with free trips. After the casinos were built, the local airport was expanded to handle the additional traffic. This area was an advantage gamblers dream with some of the best single-deck, and video poker odds in the entire country; combined with generous comps, decent weather, and southern hospitality. Ironically, I never played at this particular property because the games offered were not player friendly. It is both sad and somewhat unbelievable that a gambling destination at one point that was only behind Las Vegas and Atlantic City is now just a footnote.

The county squandered the tax revenue from all of the casinos on nepotism and other wasteful choices instead of building the area up to support the casinos. As more and more states began ratifying gambling, nicer casinos were built in better areas so there was no reason to come to this area any more. I think there were around 11 casinos during its peak and now?…only 6, I believe

Know this area, casino, and chain well. Actually know the family who co-founded the company, too. They did quite well during the 90s as the “first” casino in tons of new casino markets throughout middle America. Most properties declined once competitors with deeper pockets entered their markets. This property was one of their lesser properties in comparison to others along the River and on the Gulf Coast.

Btw The owners of this casino had tried to recruit Wayne Newton to headline in the theater, but it never happened And don't even think about exploring this place. A sign on the building says " the last person that broke into this facility was apprehended, prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced to 5 years in prison" Unfortunately Jake left that out.

When you walked up the stairs and into the hallway, I was waiting for the hallway to light up, and see the twin girls from the movie, "The Shinning" to ask you to come play with them. The clicking of your shoes on the hard flooring as you told the story gave me chills. You did such a great job on everything. Honestly, I don't know how people like you have the guts to go into a place that has been abandoned for so many years. I wouldn't be able to step foot inside the door! 😮

without intervention, this is all there will be left to show for the homo sapiens for our time on this planet. endless decaying buildings, all crumbling into dust, a planet populated with reminders of the species that once was and all our earth choking refuse. empty buildings filled with garbage and a planet devoid of us, and left only to heal. just christmas trees in a casino hallway. sorry, uh, what i meant to say is: great video. i’m not feeling angsty AT ALL, why do you ask?? this series has always been one of my favorites on youtube. it just soothes my soul to watch your videos. they’re always brilliantly done.
