Roland Ratzerberger had died in the practice for that race as well. There wouldn't be another death in F1 until Jules Bianchi at the Japanese Grand Prix (he went into a coma from which he never recovered).

@@grrob51 I was wondering the same thing. Looked like they were trying to tighten it, but then again if that thing is 350ft lbs, I am not sure how much additional tightening he would have been doing even with that long of a breaker bar.

@@grrob51 Each side of the car has opposite threads, I think the right side has reverse threads. Normally in racing you have a breaker tool, like a chisel that you can fit over the nut and hit with a hammer until it splits.

The right side wheel lug nuts actually do have left hand threads. They do that so the wheel motion helps keep them on tight (unless you just fail to get the lug nut tight enough initially).

The wheels on the right side of the car loosen turning clockwise, on the left side of the car they loosen anticlockwise. They're not road wheels.
