As with all ESP devices, it looks fantastic, but will it take 2-3 years for the development environment to catch up, like it has with devices like the ESP-C6? The people in control of your software are often rude, arrogant, unhelpful and very, very slow to do anything. This can be seen over and over again on your Github. Please make some changes so that people can actually make use of your wonderful products.
@8wj5as712js8 ай бұрын
Hi @lptf5441, over the last year we have been improving the workflow for new chip support in ESP-IDF, so it shouldn't take 2-3 years for the new chip to get supported. Most of ESP32-P4 peripherals will be supported by the time ESP-IDF v5.3 is released this summer. You can check the progress over here: github.com/espressif/esp-idf/issues/12996 - we are updating this page regularly. I apologize for the bad experience you had interacting with us on Github! We are genuinely trying to make working with our projects a good experience for all the developers. Apparently we have failed there, we'll try to improve.

Guys, you should make one ESP32 with EMAC and Wifi6/Bluetooth 5.x/802.15.4. Combine features from old esp32 and new ones. Single SoC for low power communication gateway. EMAC for uplink(good speeds, 80M compared to 30M via spi), lots of gpios (40+), and radio supporting 802.15.4 and BLE v5.x. Wifi 6 can be there just when emac is not used. Basically you should add EMAC to ESP32-C6 and add a bit more GPIO. That would be amazing.

Actually, the ESP32-S3 is capable of running Linux, which I have tried and it works. But it lacks an MMU unit, so it is not like completely supported. Having Linux support opens whole new possibilities. I'm not saying every application should run on Linux, but having the ability to run it if you want is nice. There are plenty of programs written for Linux which would just work when you have a MCU capable of running it. They just need to add a proper MMU.

yeah 400mhz cpu and 1.5gbit/s interface kinda doesn't work together EDIT: this is bs, thanks for pointing that out :)
@conorstewart22149 ай бұрын
@@fritzlb how does it not? There is no reason it can’t work. The 1.5 gbps is for a specific peripheral which will be implemented as its own hardware with a connection to the CPU. By your logic a desktop CPU can’t handle 10 gbps Ethernet or high speed USB. It is a 32 bit CPU and it’s DMA should be 32 bit too. 1.5 gbps is only around 190 megabytes per second or around 47 million 32 bit words per second. Edit: they also have other peripherals designed for handing video streams that will likely be able to handle it.

@@conorstewart2214 oh, sorry ofc, you’re right. I thought about a single serial wire bus which this clearly isn’t
@conorstewart22148 ай бұрын
@@fritzlb it doesn’t matter if it is a single wire serial bus or not. The MCU can have parts of it designed to handle those speeds especially with specialised peripherals or co-processors and DMA which the ESP32P4 has. It has a basic 2D GPU capabilities as well as image processors and a h264 encoder. What matters is the speed of the peripheral, not the speed of the processor and you can have peripherals much faster than the processor since they tend to be simpler and just have a standard bus connection to the processor, usually 32 bit on 32 bit processors.
@fritzlb8 ай бұрын
