I arrive at 3:45 for my job at NASA. I sleep for 2 hours with a battery powered, set of boots, gloves, vest, and blanket and 2 regular blankets. Toasty warm. We live in awesome times. I always have batteries plugged in. LOL. Great videos. Kids and wife think I am a nerd. Maybe. I live in the same state as the awesome Hoover Boys. (don't know them ~ yet)

I bought a USB- rechargable muffler type scarf with heated pockets on the ends of the scarf. I could tuck the ends into my coat to add to core warmth, but I plan to use the scarf ends as hand warmers. I like the flexibility of choice, but you might also benefit from pocket hand warmers. Definitely look for rechargable even though it costs more. Since you're out in a field for hours, dedicate a USB charger so you can go longer. Put your regular gloves in your warmed pockets while you are handling the cold, wet soil and they will feel like heaven after you brush your hands off. I don't know if a heated vest would give you hot spots that would make you sweat and cause worse chilling with the damp. You might be better focusing on moisture wicking layers and a lower hip length with loft for warmth and a waterproof outer shell. Zips at the hem will give you more room to sit in your car or ride your bike. The E bike could help you avoid sweating too. Wind and waterproof head gear would help a great deal too. I have never investigated heated socks, but that may be another key area. You would have to hand wash socks and allow them to dry-- a 2-day process?

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest Coast of America. You asked about heated vests. I have a Gerbing 7 volt & I use it for skiing, avoiding the cold on the ski lift ride. BRRRR! Yes, very much recommended. They can go for up to 10 hours. Extra battery packs can keep you warm all day.

Another fascinating session! The lead weight was truly amazing. I enjoy hearing you give this history of each piece, but most of all, I love your integrity. In these days of ‘fake news’, and people trying to put others down, it’s reassuring to know that there are decent folks about. The stories that these fields reveal never fails to amaze me. Thank you again John for taking us along!

Heated garments are amazing! One of my favorite winter bits is an heated hat. It keeps my head warm and toasty. They make hats, scarves, gloves, socks, coats, vests and even pants that are powered and will keep you comfy on the fields of Perthshire all winter long.

Hi John, buy 3 thin lightweight thermal jumpers and take one off if you get too warm. Wear thermal long johns and wear thin (pack lite) very light type water proof over trousers over jeans or track suit bottoms. Wear a vest and warm shirt under your jumpers. Wear a lightweight waterproof jacket with pack away hood (Decathalon Outdoor/Hunting department I think. Wear thick thermal boot socks in short Wellies. Wear a Scarf and thick neck warmer (Snood). And thick waterproof beanie hat. That works for me. Wind proof, waterproof, warm and dry. Oh and nice warm detecting gloves. Over ear headphones keep your ears warm.

Visit Canada in the winter and you’ll get the best tips ex. a down filled vest, your toque ought to be wool with a lining, lined trousers with hard shell for the wind, layers, merino wool top and bottom long underwear. Heated socks and gloves are great but you gotta be self reliant if batteries fail. Thermos of hot coffee but it’s gotta be good coffee, and an energy dense snack to fuel your furnace. You got this.

Sorry, re your finds, I’ve got nothing! But I must say how fantastic it was to see so much of the countryside around your permission this time. Of course you must be protective of the farmers/land owners who’ve given you the run of their properties, but on this occasion it was a real treat to get a bit more physical perspective of the terrain in which your finds were lost or, in the case of all the junk, thrown away. I really enjoyed this one! Cheers.

@paulwheble84015 күн бұрын
The military badge looks like a sweetheart brooch, replicas of cap badges given by soldiers to their girlfriends or wives. The brooch pin fitting's not normally seen on issue cap badges, and Scottish cap badges are usually much bigger. Also, it most closely resembles The Royal Scots cap badge, a regiment even older than the Black Watch, dating to 1633. It's probably WW1 although they were around in WW2 as well.

Another youtuber very kindly gave me a USB charged battery heated gilet last year, he had been given it to review and never wore it again, and I asked him if he thought it would help me to stay warm, in a comment to his video because I needed a way of keeping warmer while we are out detecting and I am sitting in my powerchair because I am disabled, and I can honestly say it was a game changer and I have since bought a pair of heated fleece lined trousers as well and I will be using them again tomorrow for the first time this year.
