▌NTU International Mentorship Program | Minnesota State Government Office in Taiwan
Raymond, a fourth-year student majoring in Agronomy from Indonesia, and Minnie, a third-year student majoring in Economics from Thailand, had the opportunity to intern at the the Minnesota State Government Office in Taiwan through NTU International Mentorship Program. Under the guidance of Managing Director Ms. Irene Tsai, these two students were able to apply their expertise and academic knowledge to trade and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the United States. During their intensive internship, they also gained insight into their future career paths.
Initially, both students believed their internship duties would be limited to administrative tasks within the office. However, thanks to Irene’s arrangements, they gradually became involved in strategic planning and projects that required a significant amount of specialized knowledge. One of the largest projects they participated in was the 2023 Taipei International Food Show. They were involved in trade analysis, research, coordination with import and export companies, and finally, designing and planning the exhibition that showcased the strengths and specialties of Minnesota's agriculture and food industry. Through this experience, the two students came to realize that Minnesota is not only known for its lakes and aurora but is also one of the most important food-producing regions in the States.
Furthermore, Irene personally took the two students to attend meetings at Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the annual meeting of the Association of State Offices in America (ASOA), and the quarterly meeting of the Discover America Committee in Taiwan (DAC), and so on. Through the International Mentorship Program, these two students gained a profound understanding that cooperation and diplomacy between nations are not distant endeavors. Even as interns, they had the opportunity to actively participate and contribute to these efforts behind the scenes.
In the next few months, NTU OIA will continue to visit the mentors and students of our Mentorship Program to share stories and learn from their experiences. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more mentorship story posts!
