I went rockhounding for the first time ever with my two sons during a trip to Montana this summer. We all found some great smoky quartz pieces, and the thrill of finding each little piece is indescribable. I've literally had dreams almost every night since then about pulling giant perfect gems out of the ground, and have been trying to plan a time and place to go do it again. I only live a few hours away from Buena Vista, and was super-stoked to see this video. I never knew Mount Antero was such a good place for gems, and I'm definitely going when it warms up again. Will make sure to visit the Mount Antero Treasures shop! I don't know how I never saw this channel before, but it's an easy instant sub from me after only one video. I'm also into magnet fishing, so it looks like I've got a lot of content to catch up on! If you're still giving away any of those gems, my sons and I would love one. Keep up the good work!

I'd like to mention that I work in a rock shop and sell various crystals including smoke quartz and aquamarine crystals, and the prices that are mentioned are extremely high compared to the prices I sell them for, this isn't bashing on the fun that was obviously had in the making of this video but it does confuse many who look to buy and sell crystals and semi-precious stones, just thought that needed to be said.

I did find it a bit odd how supposedly all these jems he was pulling out were as expensive as they were telling him. I looked at several places online from different countries quoting different prices. They were all surprisingly similar in price and they don't seem to be far off in the video, though I'm assuming they're talking about cut prices in the video? Maybe you can educate me more since to be honest I don't know what I'd be looking at, what is true and what isn't and the real value of a gem.

@@Kyle_Hubbard aquamarine sells for a decent price when cut and its based on how many karrats it is but smoky quartz is sold by the pound regardless of quality at least where i am with some exceptions. I sell rough aquamarine for about $3 us equivalent per stone for some decent sized pieces (regardless of actual quality). As for smoky quartz I sell it for about $30 us equuivalent a kilo. Most stones are rather common especially the quartz stones with a fair few exceptions but clear and smokey quartz are not on that list.

The reason why the prices are so high is because the ones that he is finding have never been touched by anyone, but the ones online have been polished and touched by many people and they have machines to make those crystals are more pretty than the ones that he is finding

While it's true that price is inflated, in the gem world, most crystal collectors and jewelers pay a premium for Antero aquamarine

There’s something similar in Utah in the middle of the desert and is public (I think) called Topaz Mountain. There’s a bunch of crystals literally littered everywhere! However, since they were sun-bleached over time, they are worthless (but pretty) but you can find some crystals with the yellowish-brown hue (topaz) if you dig in the mountain.
