I absolutely love this pen, size, section, weight and everything. Also have the P36. Only wish they made a piston filler of this larger than the p36, something like a P200, that'd be amazing

I've been eyeballing this pen since it came out. Seeing how easily it disassembled is pushing me towards getting one. It looks easy peasy. I'd never remove the piston but the idea of removing the section to clean the pen barrel is highly appealing.

Thank you for the disassembly demonstration, Doug. I usually do most of this when I get a vac filler before using it. It seems fairly easy to do as opposed to others that I have. That it can take a Bock nib is a plus as I have a Bock Titanium nib and would like to use it with this pen.

Awesome. Thanks Paul.

Posted a reply on the train earlier today, but I see it didn't stick. Wifi on Dutch trains, grmbl. The gist of it is: while looking really well thought out and well-made, the design looks mostly like a straight tube from top to bottom finial. The design language of the curvy section (that was taken from the P36 you said) kind of demands curves on the rest of the pen. Thanks for the insightful disassembly, that was very cool.
@InkquiringMinds9 ай бұрын
Thanks, Willem. Yes, it certainly takes its design cues from the straight tubes of the 1920s! ;)

Thanks for sharing this kind of information, which is very helpful when one does not know what comes apart which way (Is it screwed? Reverse threads? Press fit? etc.)

Standard "right hand" threads.

I checked the pictures of the unboxing of my V126 and sure enough the nib was aligned with the clip when I took it out of the box, while it was a quarter of turn off after dissassembling and reassembling the thing. So I went trough the entire process again a couple of times and in the end I got it right. The culprit is the threading of the nib unit. Must have 3 or 4 starts, while both the section and the cap have two.
@InkquiringMinds9 ай бұрын
That's exactly it!
@peterharris53879 ай бұрын
I rewound to the unboxing. The pen came out with the nib aligned with the clip. Ps don't forget the little ring next time you disassemble 😂

Interesting!

Nice detailed disassembly! One other option for getting the clip to line up with the nib is to rotate the clip as needed and not have it align with the branding on the cap band. I guess it’s your pick for the lesser of two evils.

6:01 Wait, you could unscrew the nib unit (with the collar) from your P36? How did you manage to do that? I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought the nib collar was glued to the nib section of the P36.
@InkquiringMinds9 ай бұрын
Nope. Unscrews. The V169 doesn't unscrew.

If anyone knows of a quick and effective method to clean the ink that gets embedded here (minute 14:42) please let me know. It's the problem I have with vacs when using saturated inks.
@InkquiringMinds9 ай бұрын
Remove the vac assembly and soak in an ultrasonic. Saturated inks will sometimes permanently stain those o-rings.

I always do, and yet... (This must be why ultracleaning guys prefer pistons)

Doug, I enjoyed the disassembly/reassembly demo. Do you know if the white o-rings were actually made of a "rubber" compound? They look a lot like the Teflon labyrinth ring seals used on the hydraulic pistons of Cat 977 steering clutches.
@InkquiringMinds9 ай бұрын
They are silicone o-rings - same as the black.

I received mine about a week ago and instantly fell in love. It's easy to get a very full fill (with the usual careful air expulsion technique) and writes wonderfully. Looks and feels cool! One question: didn't you get an included multi-pen wrench with yours?

Yes. But not needed.

Hi - I bought the p36 v200 and it looks like nib 6 is small for this fountain pen, I wonder if you can recommend a nib 8 that can fit, thank you for teaching me how to deal with baby-bottom nibs
@InkquiringMinds4 ай бұрын
The V200 will not accept a #8 nib.

Asvine can build a number 8 nib unit (maybe titanium nib) as their next pens models.

When screwed down does it seal off the feed like other vac fillers or does it stay back from the feed allowing ink to flow even when fully threaded shut? Im ok either way, just like to know especially since im about to take a flight and might pick one up.
@InkquiringMinds6 ай бұрын
It has a shut off valve that needs to be opened to allow ink to flow.
