The big dig was a financial failure but Boston has become extremely livable due to excellent urban planning.

I really dislike Brasília. It’s a dated auto centric nightmare. However, it’s by no means a “failure”. It has became the 4th most populated metro area in Brazil with over 4.2 million, the 3rd largest GDP, 3rd airport hub and the successful home of Brazil’s government, world’s 7th largest population and 8th economy.

Well it is a CAPITAL of a massive country of more than 200 mln people with a plethora of natural resources ,in those circumstances it is not hard to be relatively successful.

I always find Love Canal very interesting. One of the earlier NIMBY movements when that movement was legitimately about environmentalism as opposed to the way bad actors often tend to use similar language around NIMBYism today. I find it interesting how community organizing can lead to change at such a grand scale. Seems to be a thing we see less and less as society becomes more fragmented and jaded with an emboldened police state

6:50 not to mention there was no need for the big dig or its predecessor in the first place - there is no law of nature that forces you to build urban highways, as proven by most cities worldwide...😅
