Unwrapping Vintage 1950's or 60's McDonald's 50 cent Roll! 1909-S ender. SURPISES inside too!

This looks like a roll that was recently put together for E-bay sales. Probably was quite expensive. Decent coins but not accurate for what was in circulation in the 50's and 60's.

Yes - I know what you are speaking of. I've been at the roll game for a long time now, and it did not come from a notorious roll seeder, and it did not cost an arm and a leg. In fact, I'm way ahead on the roll. But thank you for watching and leaving a comment.

A real roll from the 1950s would have a bunch of red or red brown looking cents with a lighter mix of circulated coins. When all the cents are circulated, it's a big giveaway.

Something odd about that roll. I started collecting around 1960 and went through hundreds of penny and nickel rolls back then. Never found a single 1909-S or Flying Eagle in circulation. Good catch though!

3 flying eagles but no Indians? I started collecting in 1959. I still saw the occasional Indian, but never a Flying Eagle. Never saw a 1909-S, 1914-D, or 1931-S in the wild. Odd roll.

I buy boxes of cents at different banks and I got one box that had a flying eagle cent in fine condition, back was xf, and a lot of key date Lincoln wheats. I think it was a collection dump. Maybe that was the case with your roll there, Anyway, great find!

An assembled roll for sure, but hope you don't forget to check for Cherrypickers varieties in the "common" coins - lots of doubled dies and repunched mintmarks exist for the dates shown here.

almost wonder if it could have been a McDonald's employee back in the 60s who was themself picking the rare pennies out of the drawer and rolling them up for safekeeping.

Definitely put together but they at least made some effort -- maybe too much effort to cover a lot of different dates. 1863 and back coins were thicker than normal cents, which is why you don't see them coin hunting even back then. If that were a 1957 roll, you'd have some truly red coins in the late 50s. You'd also have a bunch of 1944 cents. Two 1930Ds is really weird as well. 1909S ender? Certainly not. Essentially the roll fails the ping test for what should be in it.

Surprised that there was no Indian Head Pennies in that roll. A lot of those pennies are clearly cleaned. Flying Eagle cents are more common than you would think. I have had luck with scrapped payphones and mercury dimes. Once found a bank bag full of Morgans in an old building in Miami Beach Florida in an elevator shaft. But clearly I find more pennies than anything else.

Pretty cool roll! Question... I've asked a few coin channels this and never get and feed back, maybe you might have something.....I wonder why nobody ever talks about rotated die errors. I have a 1987 quarter with a 175 degree rotated die and I would like to find out how much it may be worth, do you have any knowledge about that? It's condition is definitely circulated but looks like it hasn't passed through many hands

Errors like that are tricky, because they are volatile, and the value is not "established" the way you can approximate value like a graded coin. Great question though. Best bet would be an auction.

I could see someone taking all the ugly coins out of the till for recirculation. I started collecting in the mid seventies and when I went through my parents change I would have put all the worst coins in the last roll.
