this has always been my dream car since i was young. my dad used to drive a disco 3 ya gava akiwa forester and i fell in love with these rigs. till today, i still dream of them regardless of how unreliable they are. fun fact, its the only SUV i can buy, in my fleet of sedans and estates.

I have owned Land Rovers for over 20 yrs, i have not had as many issues as many say, they have issues just like any vehicle, even a toyota. I love Rovers, I take care of my vehicle like you are suppose to and also I buy genuine parts (from offline) and have my garage put what ever on. I think they are great vehicles, they are not the best, I ldont think any are but I like what I like.

Still remains the best car I've ever owned. This car is more capable on and offroad, can't compare to any. You take care of it it will take care of your motion. The myth that the car is expensive to maintain is misleading, so it is within its range to cost for service and maintenance. Comparing it to Toyota is an unfair comparison as well. This is a Land Rover.

This car is great, big power, comfort, ultimate practical family car. About reliability, why but a car and ignore service for 2k km, preventive maintenance is the key to owning a car for ages. Most so called reliable cars are packed with much less tech, power and practicality so you can dodge maintenance here and there but even japanese high spec cars will cost you a fortune if you don't maintain them well

Thank you for the good work you are doing with the vehicle reviews. I have used a disco for about 10 years and also used the competition. For a fair comparison you should have compared the disco 4 without air suspension with the prado/pajero equivalent. Secondly you failed to show the capability of the disco 4 offroad which is where it has its true advantage. Third you failed to show the road handling of this vehicle for a better comparison with the Japanese SUVs. Fourth you missed out on the safety features of this vehicle compared to the competition. Lastly the Disco in Kenya suffers from the perennial problem of lack of capable mechanics to fix them. There few good mechanics who are in high demand with lots of pretenders out there. This leaves Disco owners with the predicament of being exploited by some bad mechanics before they get a good one that charges fair price and does not exploit the ignorance of the owners. If you can, please be sharing a segment of the review at the end for the suitable places to purchase and repair the spares for these vehicles both official and unofficial for us to benefit also.

Erick you are straight to the point candidly. The discos whether 3 or 4 are the same.. money pits.Secondly, what's the use of leather seats and seat heating systems in the tropics?In mid 2000,every car buyer would insist on cruise control system. I've never been in car that this system was in use.Some of these extras buyers ask for are just cosmetic.
@TechInADay2 жыл бұрын
I would like to chip in on the heated seats debate. I discovered that some like them for soothing lower back pains. Personally,I have used it very early in the morning and enjoyed the ride more that when I didn't. Cruise control is also a recommended feature. It helps you maintain speed and I have used it in an suv,a van and a hatchback. Maintaining speed can really help your fuel efficiency and compliance with the speed limits. I am yet to test adaptive cruise control and will probably like it. In a nutshell,these features are not compulsory but they add to your driving comfort.

Great review here, I am however coming in late but will offer one or two cents... am afraid you are reviewing this car from the typical kenyan maintenance free attitude that we approach all of our property right from homes, buildings upto and including vehicles... Fortunately there are plenty of online communities and forums that have come up that may assist one to own this machine relatively stress free. the TDV6/ SDV6 family of engines were certainly not engineered with the kinds of thresholds for failure that JDM equivalents were. The airbags suspension system is actually a lifetime system with maintenance, what is perceived as failure is actually the system going into limp mode due to some other fault in a different part of the vehicle. Coil over conversions are actually more expensive in the long run than maintaining the airbags. More important things to worry about should certainly be the EPB system, the Oil Pump and water pump failure as well as the crankshaft failure, if you fail to pay attention to the oil pressure, and regular maintenance with the right specification of parts and sensors and timing belt changes, preferrably early than they are due. The discovery is certainly a car that requires tender care and love, driving with intent , and always being aware of the fault codes as soon as they are generated by the car and attending to them ASAP. If you lack the time, budget care and attention and preventive maintenance habits, this car will certainly punish you. If you take care of it, it will reward you.

He was ripped off. It's about 25k to replace the air shocks on each wheel. But the most common reason for a failure is the sensor. Which costs about 10k and can be changed in minutes. I wouldn't swap out the air suspension, I'd get it fixed properly by a genuine mechanic and enjoy the wonder of air suspension. In time, all vehicles will adopt it.

Also, the air suspension never just fails out of no where. The car will give you signs over a period of time and when you ignore these signs, that’s when it gives,mostly from air compressor burn out. There is a lot of misconceptions about the air suspension yet it lasts almost 10 years plus. Highly advise against changing into coils and springs as it’s expe sit and takes away the off road benefits that the suspension gives.
