THANKS for posting this video, as an ex international trucker (1992-96), its hard to explain to friends what roads like this are like to drive on, its FANTASTIC to drive on, during a warm summer day, BUT, in the winter, its TOTALLY DIFFERENT, Ive done this route about 50-60 times, and TWICE in real heavy snow conditions, once, there was no snow on the approach to the tunnel on the French side, then 1 foot of snow on the road on the Italian side, the scenery looked AWESOME/MAGICAL, the second time was Italy to France, also at night, with NO snow chains, (lift axle UP, and diff lock ON), quite a few trucks had slid off the road, the downhill journey on the French side was "something else", as it took about half an hour to do the first 2 miles, in crawler gear, with my foot jammed on the exhaust brake, as the road ahead "looked like a ski jump ramp", I had a passenger friend with me, who after that 2 mile drive, turned to me and said "THAT is the BEST effing driving I have EVER seen", THAT is a TRUE perspective of what its like to be an "International Trucker"

Nice video. A friend of mine from the Haute Savoie was a long distance trucker in the 80s. He told me how steep this was. I believe that one of his stories about having trouble slowing down/stopping was from descending on the French side, having to use one of the safety exit paths or whatever your call them. He also remembered twice seeing an Italian border agent asleep at night with a stamp on a table that said "Stamp your papers." HA!

Wow I miss driving trucks in Europe. You don't get this in Canada or the US. This video is very well done mate.

rogertrucker Trucking in North America and in Europe is very different. North America has a gigantic mountain range in the Western part, and high mountains in the East of the USA. Between these regions the landscape is flat like a pancake. Europe is more mountainous. Only the countries around the Baltic Sea, the coast regions of Northern Germany, The Netherlands, and the Atlantic coast of France are flat regions. The mountains are not so high as the Rockies, but they are steeper in Europe. There are a lot of roads with more than 15 % gradient, even more than 20% in the Italian Alpes. The Norwegian mountains seem to come out of the fjords, and often have an angle of 70 degrees, even up to 90 degrees. That is why the roads in Norway are so curvey and narrow. The fjords are no lakes, they are part of the Atlantic ocean.

Hey Coffeholic8! Do you ever go south of Italy? During the week i´m usally around Bari, Pescara or Taranto coming over the Brenner route.Sometimes over St. Bernadino if going to Milan or Turin. Where abouts is your depot? I do allot of U.K. as well Tyne area Ft. William or Inverness.

No correction needed you are right! The only law I have seen in the mountains is the horn and flashing lights law! The experience of the other drivers which could be zero should be taken into consideration. Cortina,Biella,Grezzana,Feltre, No laws exsist for these mountain roads.

Not too dissimillar from the Snake Pass..... Only quite a bit longer. Is European work easier than just UK?

i think it was after a truck caught fire a few years back and killed a lot of people these should detect unordinary heat excessive engine heat /electrics or a cigarette slowly catching fire in the back i may be wrong but this is what i had been told down there?
