I like your comment on kids growing up who were so into construction equipment, and watch guys like you all day fixing roads. It's true most kids grow up and don't want to know anything about the hard work and long days involved with it. I was one of those kids who were so into this stuff, but in my house there was no easy ride. My father drove a flatbed tractor trailer for 33 years up and down interstate 95 and on his days off him and his brother doing side jobs all the time. There was no sitting around my house on weekends for the boys we were out on job site painting houses or laying carpet all day. That's the way it was and you learned about hard work and make a living, and maybe you grew up a little faster then some of your friends. I look back now and realize it was a learning about life and maybe a little about bonding with your dad and family. We're not any worse off for it. Great video guys, well done !

When I was 9 in 1987 the city had the 5 lane street in front of our condos completely redone from the road base up. I spent most of my summer following them and watching the whole process. It was about 2 miles. I've been looking for a channel that really showed the details. This video reminded me of that summer. Thanks.

Right On , @Jeff Stewart ! Just like what I mentioned in my post. As I was the only kid back then on my block that would spend hours just observing the "Pine Street " complete removal of curb gutters,drainage,base & utilities and Relay the entire thing brand new ! Which that was just one of scores of others I'd watch & even participate in as a young lad or even teen. Long before folks would run you off cause of the fear of yuh getting hurt & lawyers suing the sh!t out of you. Sadly it's something you pretty much never see anymore as tablets/cell phones have replaced most children's sense of adventure & tangible proof of something you worked on or were apart of amongst a group of like minded individuals. It's even a rarity for Contractoring Dads to have that constantly fascinated kid that insists on riding along whenever the chance allows to do all that masculine sh!t. Unfortunately the kid doesn't have any interest until he's 30 , strung out & ruined a good chunk of his life & now he's going to work with dad cause he's virtually unemployable!

At 11:30 Dude working the Grade & Left Extension hit the nail on the head ! Throughout my entire adolescents be it outside my school's window or up close & in person neighborhood construction from Home repair to municipal utility work, I was all over it ! Couldn't get enough of it & that was just watching them work an occasionally they'd let me trowel a little create, hammer a nail, throw a scoop or ride along on the equipment! All this occurring in the 80's & Early 90's just before All the Lawyers & Insurance companies took over running our country. It's these experiences ( especially in single parent homes) that all young men need, I don't think it's so much the wanting a father figure as it is the fascination with labor intensive work where blood,sweat,tears & determination allow you to stand back ( once the job is done) & admire your craft. I did that , we did that , & I get paid to do it. It's a tragedy that so many kids today have zero interest in all that's going on around them. Noticeably the only thing that has changed is the electronics & countless hours spent absorbing nothingness. Useless mega brand nonsense that far too many parents often shove into the faces of these unsuspecting children who are hardly to blame as since early childhood the tablet or cell phone has been the parents go to device to entertain the there child. Then as time goes by , they are left wondering why the child,adolescent,teen,etc lacks interest in almost everything, from peer relationships to self respect & or even emotional,intellectual, growth! Please , those of us who work in such fields & or notice these ridiculous trends consuming our family's ( to stranger) kids lives , do your part the moment any child is taking notice of your craft ! Even more so , if it's a teen who has taken the time to check out what Y'all got going on " Offer him a job " . Even if it's 10 bucks an hour after school or summer breaks. We know you can't have him on State,Fed jobs etc. But a shop boy or Helper is by far the greatest reward any of us that ourselves were once fascinated by it all & had that one out going guy not given us the opportunity to cut Crete, run the loader or man a tool , whose to say where we of ended up ! I like how u explained the transition of the aprons meeting the road on how much they are off on grade . Because everything is paved at different times so you have different grades. When you do the drains use a mudflap from a dump truck. Put a little diesel in it pave right over it, shovel it off done 👍. You guys have beautiful equipment !! Keep it up !!

muttflap is to thick, we use thin steal plate that we hang on paver and take off when needed

I've been watching your videos for a couple months now. They're awesome!! I LOVE those hats!!! If I wasn't on disability, I'd love to buy one. Hell I used to drive dump Trucks of all shapes & sizes. Then I fell to the frozen ground coming over the top of the box after spraying down with antifreeze as we were stockpiling sand & Gravel products for the next season. My boot slipped off those little steps & splat..... Right on my back. Anyway..... Have a good one. See you in the next video!! 😊

When I see your rigs, it makes me happy. I drove a Fld flattop, 300" wb, 425 cat, super 10, drop or flatbed, otr. The re were damn few times you would catch me riding dirty. A year after I had left, I was talking to my old boss in the yard, looking at my old truck, totally filthy. Boss says, you put a pressure washer on that truck and the wheels still shine. Of course, drivers after me didn't polish and wax like me. California brush for quick touch ups roo. Edit. I wrote my comment before watching the video. When it started, I started laughing. My boss liked my attention to detail. I was his first truck to run west of the Mississippi and first to California. He kept a picture of me on I 5, at a pull off with the valley behind me on the wall behind his desk.

Do a video on asphalt from the start at the hot mix plant to the road ran through the paver. Explain about the additives in the asphalt and different grades. It’s crazy how a cup full of silicone mixed into a load of liquid asphalt can change the finshed product

You take the low tonnage goat paths with the high tonnage gun runs through the subdivision developments! As long as it rolls out you are good. I hate paving down hill the trucks have a hard time staying with the paver. We had a system in the 70’s that would the paver had arms/rollers to hold the trucks. Our chippers would hook to the hitch on the truck.
