Mabuhay UP for keeping our tradition alive. I auditioned on the same stage in 1972-1973 under our teachers Ms. Inigo and Agsalud. I bested many dancers and when I migrated to the US, I became one of the organizers of a dance troupe recognized by the State of Hawaii. I was joined by members of the Bayanihan and Ramon Obusan, in perpetrating the authentic Philippine dance forms. We sent the MSU-IPAG in 2006 to perform at the renovated Hawaii Theater during the centennial celebration of Filipino migration to the US. During the course of the dance recitals, I found it imperative that the dancers work out minimum 8 hrs/day to maintain their stamina, posture, flexibility, and form. Hey Dolly , Are you Umpe’s daughter? Has a dance studio in Caloocan City with your mom? If you are please pm me. My name is Jeanette E. I used to danced in your studio and my group we’re heading to Europe. Blessings
@dollyhohing73033 жыл бұрын
@@jeanettematos2719 No, but good luck on your trip to Europe. I suggest that you get in touch with the UPAA (University of the Philippines Alumni Association) and request for the contact addresses of the UPAA Chapters in Europe. My college courses included Spanish I, II, and the teachings of Rizal so I enjoyed my visit in Spain. I also took conversational French from UP as an elective, and took German classes at Goethe in Manila. Bring Berlitz tapes and companion dictionary. I had classmates who moved to Europe as Erasmus Mundos scholars, so it was fun to get reacquainted. Pass by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and see if Bayanihan is also touring. My mother was a Special Education teacher at the Philippine National School for the Blind. She passed her accreditation in California but taught with the public schools in Hawaii. Aloha and Mabuhay!

Ok lang naman na imodify yong ibang steps na may halong exageration, that is for the sake of art, and also presentation. I'm sure the audiences were thrilled with their performance which I think ma-aappreciate ng mga taga Kalinga. Let's be happy, isa tayo sa mga bansa na hinahangaan ang mga sayaw ng mga dayuhan.

I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about how the choreography is not traditional and so on...BLAH...I think we should all appreciate the fact that Philippine dance forms are flexible and expressive, not rigid, and open to new innovations...after all, innovation just means the progression of our culture...other wise we would be back in the stone age

There are things that should be preserved, and there are those that can be reinvented. I think traditional dances need to stay traditional as much as possible.

what is your point Archie Dema-ala? the dance is meant to speak about the folk culture of the Kalinga as they go about their daily lives using the banga to fetch water up and down the mountains. Naturally, the steps and everything about the choreography is based on the interpretation of the choreographer after the dance is studied. Therefore, WALANG TAMA AT MALING STEPS because they are all based on the artistic director's interpretation based on the folk culture. how do you define authentic? kapag kalinga ang mga sumasayaw at sinasayaw nila iyon sa mga kabundukan ng cordillera as they go about their daily life fetching water. that is the only way to define it. Since this is a performance, it automatically becomes mediated from the " authentic" by virtue of the performance arena, which is the performance stage. so ang inirereklamo mo na authentic automatically becomes moot and academic. yun lang.

filipino folk dance doesnt need to be always the same choreography they can dance with different style and movement not unlike the other countries they had the same step and choreography all the time and its kinda boring to watch it... when we perform banga we used a a handcrafted wood and still heavy to put it on head and sometimes when we do practice we had to be careful coz it will break as well just like a real clay banga

@Onnada1 maybe their purpose of dancing culturally related dances is not really to promote that culture but to make it appealing to audience, in doing so they have to do some innovation. i understand sentiments of that culture but it's all business. this is also true to other cultures world wide.

hmmm, hindi exaggerated ito, its how they dance... mahirap magbalance ng authentic na BANGA... mabigat yan di palayok lang... try viewing other dance groups... then maybe you can compare... or cantrast! harharhahar! hindi kasi fiberglass yan eh clay talaga... true at some point hindi na nagawa yung dance pero natapos nag maayos and the 1000 plus audience loved it. =) peace be with you too.

Pero yung pinerform ng grupong to my coreography at iba pa pero, yung pagsayaw nila sana prinactice nila pati yung pagbeat nga gong dapat prinactice nila yung naayon talaga, kasi sa amin ang banga dance at pagsayaw ng ganito di dapat ganito lng, respeto din nman sana, i mean pinortray nga nila pero nawala yung mga ibang details ng talagang banga dance, nagmistulan ng entertainment eh,
