Thank you Hans. Even from the 8th floor of the tower you can't see it all.

Bailey is a spectacular yard and as it should be since it is the world's largest rail yard. I loved railfanning around there, especially at Hershey west of North Platte where there were at times three trains crossing at once. Please tell me that in addition to this video, there are more railfan videos to come from UP's Overland Route in the area.

Love how you got the SD90MAC’s! Those are not easy finds! Are there any of those things stored in this yard? I’d love to film one of possible.

It's like a giant post office but instead of sorting mail and parcels it sorts freight cars.

How many trains are built in terms of rail car type?

Here in Ohio there are several shirt lines that will pick up grainers at rural elevators, assemble a pretty substantial number of cars, then, through the use of interchange tracks or yards hand them off to class one railroads to continue their journey as a unit train.

@@TechEagers the operator in the hump/ classification tower sets up the switches and can slow the cars, based on weight, using retarders, as they roll into designated tracks in the 'bowl' to make up outgoing trains.

@@TechEagers you are very welcome. Many railroads are going back to 'flat switching', stating that unless they are processing a very large number of railcars the humps are too costly to operate.
