I have a question. Is it important for the ball to float for U = W or can it be in the center of the water or even at the bottom?
@ajp8659
@ajp8659 3 жыл бұрын
according to what he said the ball must be stationary, therefore i believe it can be located anywhere in the fluid so long as it has no motion whatsoever take into account newtons first law of motion when saying that U = W, if U = W that means that the ball is in equilibrium and that there is no net forces acting on it, therefore (provided that no external forces act upon it) the ball will remain at rest or stationary. BUT later in the video he states that in order for U to = W, the density of the object and the fluid must also be the same. Therefore, with the ball being a solid object and the water being a liquid, their densities differ and therefore the ball shall not be stationary everywhere because it will not be in true equilibrium without external forces acting upon it (keep in mind that I am just a student so this might turn out to be wrong but I think that my evidence holds)
