There may be difference of opinion about counting the Upapada Lagna on two counts : first the exception when the upapad falls in 12th itself we need to take the 10th from 12th i.e., 9th house Another method is decide whether 2nd house or the 12th house be considered. If the Asc sign is Odd sign then 12th house is to be considered and if Asc. sign is an even sign, 2nd house is to be considered for calculation of Upapada Lagna. Here, the Asc. sign being even sign, the upapada lagna is to be calculated from 2nd house. Here too, Leo becomes the Upapada Lagna. However, what you have explained about effects of UL and 2nd from UL is very good. The most nice to hear is the exception to be checked in Navamsa chart .. Thank U.

Your explanation is very good, but without writing something on the board or really creating a horoscope its really painful to understand. You should take examples such as Dhanur ascendent with Gemini Rashi for a birth date say Mirugashira pada3 and then explain . That's just one process that will ease your explanation. But as per exception rule, whenever 12th House Lord is in 12th, then Upapada lagna CANNOT be the same house (i.e. 12th house), and it is always the 9th house (i.e. 10 places away from 12th lord). Thus Rahu in sign of Taurus is his Upapada Lagna, not Sun in Leo as shown in video.

the problem is that the Upapada lagna is elsewhere in Rasi and Bhavachalit. Usually astrologers also look at houses from Rasi, but this is a mistake because you should look at Bhava chalit, and here too the problem may be that they are in different places in Rasi and Bhava Chalit, and then which one should you calculate now ??? ???

Is this computation correct? I'm a Capricorn Ascendant in my birth chart. 12th house lord - Sagittarius is Jupiter. Jupiter is in conjunction with Mercury in the 3rd house. So, 12th house lord is 4 houses away from the 12th house. The 4th house away from the 3rd house is 6th house in the sign of Gemini. And, here's the result with respective planets: 1 Gemini 2 Cancer Rahu 3 Leo 4 Virgo 5 Libra Mars 6 Scorpio Pluto, Chiron & Lilith 7 Sagittarius 8 Capricorn Moon & Ketu 9 Aquarius Sun 10 Pisces Mercury & Jupiter 11 Aries Venus & Saturn 12 Taurus 1: Gemini's planet lord is in 10th house, so marital problems are related with the 10th house. 2: Characteristics of spouse: 10th house, Pisces 3: Personality: Pisces 4: 2nd house is Cancer in Rahu, but aspected by Jupiter as seen in the 10th house, and the planet lord of Gemini which is Mercury, is in exaltation in my Navamsa chart, but in conjunction with Ketu. What does that indicate? I interpret that communication can mainly either make or break my married life. Am I correct?

I have a confusion regarding calculating the pada lagnas (e.g. Arudha, upapada etc.). I read Jaimini Sutras and it says that if the ascendant rashi is even, then you count in the reverse directions (clockwise in North Indian style) to calculate pada lagnas. In addition to that, the upapada lagna is counted for the second house instead of 12th house. For example, for a Cancer ascendant, which is an even sign, the sign to be considered for upapada lagna is Leo (2nd sign) instead of Gemini (12th sign). And also the direction of counting how far the House lord is sitting is also reversed (clockwise in North Indian style kundli). Can somebody please clarify this? I will highly appreciate it. Thanks. in some cases, they say we have to follow the process of finding the pitree lagna first( sign in which ascendant is placed) then if its odd or even sign accordingly we have to find the anuchara (if its for male native) and agrachara(for female native) by moving one sign backwards or forwards, then check the sign in which that anuchara or agrachara lord is placed, then count the exact same places from that lord and find the upapada lagna. which of these is correct?? which one to choose?

Why didnt you explain the rules of exception. For example if saturn which is lord of my 12th house (aquarius) is sitting 10 houses (11 signs) away from 12th house (sagittarius), should I count 7 houses from position of 12 house? 7 houses from saturn? or 4 houses forward from saturn? Resources are not clear in this matter You definitely should have explained rules of exception. I am really mad that no one is able to explain it properly.

I know that this rule is used by people and it is also mentioned in some old astrological texts but in my experience this rule has never worked. You can also try it on at least 30 charts and see yourself. I believe that if something works then it's true not just by the mere fact that it is written somewhere by someone. And this is true for every arudha pada not just only for upapada or arudha lagna.
