It turned out very pretty. The patch work adds a lot of interest to it. I would want 3/4 length sleeves. It would make a great dress. Thank you for that tip about using a broken clothespin. Great idea. I have some cotton flannel shirts that I could make over into a nice patchwork flannel dress. It would be great worn over leggings, or tights, in the winter.

Hey all- remember that Sherry gets a little more revenue if we watch the ads. We can help her income at no cost - so she can get more money from KZbin - just by watching the ads to completion.

Thanks you so much for showing this process…..absolutely fascinating to see how you joined the patchwork piece to the beginning shirt piece and gather with your fingers as you sewed 👍🏼Wondering if you have a tutorial showing how you joined the fabric pieces to create the patchwork pieces ❤

Hey, Sherry. I just love this cute duster. My best friend gave me a peasant style dress that she would NEVER wear. I have been trying to make a skirt from it. IF I EVER get that finished, I think it will be cute. 🤔 Yet to be determined 😅 You make recycling look so easy. ❤

I wonder if people realize how much work goes into the patchwork. I worked for a week on something similar and it was exhausting!! You have to think things through, then manipulate the fabric (fight with the needles and bobbin thread) and hope you don't catch something you don't mean to (requiring the seam ripper) and again hope your idea and your finished project are at least similar lol Nice job and thanks for your time.
@SherryJonesDesigns2 ай бұрын
Patchwork is time consuming but goes faster the more one does it plus I prep a lot of my scraps beforehand by cutting them into squares or rectangles and storing them neatly on top of each other so they aren't wrinkled which allows me to grab and sew more quickly.

Sherry, I saw someone do a trick to sew over heavy denims. She put something flat under the back of the presser foot to bring it up level, and then it was easier to sew through all layers. I've not tried it though. Your duster is adorable.🥰
@theresaanndiaz31792 ай бұрын
They sell a couple of accessories to do that, one is called something like hump jumper, but I have always just used some cardstock. Also the little knob on the side of some sewing feet is for that. Your manual will explain or you can look for a video. I love dusters, they are super versatile. Sherry's is very cute.

Before you sew the thick edges pound the he'll out of it with a hammer, works great!
@SherryJonesDesigns2 ай бұрын
I've have seen other people do that but most of my issues is the motor on my Bernina isn't as strong as newer ones. My Singer Heavy Duty would have walked right through it. I would have still had to use something to level it though like the clothes pin thingy.

If a machine is meant to use metal bobbins, you can't use plastic ones in them. The machine's tension settings are designed/preset for the heavier metal bobbins. The plastic ones are too light and will give problems.
@SherryJonesDesigns2 ай бұрын
Well the bobbin holder has a tension setting on the tread that is adjustable. I think what is messing with my machine is that the bobbins aren't the right thickness in depth and allows it to move forward and backward and pulls the thread out of the tensioner. I even found one plastic bobbin that was too thick for the bobbin holder and won't go all the way in to sit flush with the bobbin holder. So the metal ones are likely machines more exacting and precise. That is my theory anyway.
@lauraseay4723Ай бұрын
Keep in mind the button sides of fabric. Whether it's from male or female shirt.
@SherryJonesDesignsАй бұрын
Also, the cuffs of both male and female clothing are always opposing.
@schizoozy2 ай бұрын
A singer heavy duty crafting foot would probably sew that thick section.
@SherryJonesDesigns2 ай бұрын
I don't know if it would work because my machine motor is just not able to sew through that much fabric and also is a Bernina which uses different feet. I do have a converter but the space is limited. I have a Singer Heavy duty sewing machine I can use if I can't get it through the Bernina

What defines a “duster”?
@SherryJonesDesigns2 ай бұрын
Well, according to Etsy and Pintrest any open front long tunic with buttons.
