Well, it's not like you're painting 100 year old baseboards, window trim and doors, or an antique staircase...these are mass produced modestly priced kitchen chairs that are not OLD old. I've got a couple of sets of semi old chairs (1940s) slated to go under the brush myself. Depending on the condition, sometimes, it is simply the best plan. I suppose when you're putting stuff up for the whole internet to examine, you're bound to get some who will disagree no matter what you do. I love your careful technique for painting, and the outcome was sweet. Such a nice job!

I have happily painted my 1904 baseboards, window trim, doors, and wood paneling. It was dreary gum wood and looked dark. Every generation does their own thing…get over it. Wood can be stripped! I’ve done it many times.

Maybe in the future you could do a demo video of how you painted the shrooms. That would be great. Yes paint money 💰 have gone off the charts. Check the mistints at hardware stores, or try tester pots . When I used to do a lot of painting furniture I would buy plain white paint and mix acrylic tube pains in to get the colours I wanted. I don’t think I could do that now, actually don’t know how I did it then? 🤷‍♀️😂. Best of luck, be healthy happy and safe

Love your sense of humor, so subscribing. My rural county has a section @ the transfer station where folks can drop off unwanted paint. There is alsi a section for furniture. Not everything has to go in the garbage.

That's wonderful! I think our dump has a section for reselling still usable items like furniture and building materials, but there's still so much that just ends up in the trash. It makes me so sad.

Hi, thank you for asking! The brand is Actíva Premier Lightweight Stone clay. Here's a link to their website www.activaproducts.com/10-58-oz-of-white-premier-clay I got mine at Michael's, but I'm sure you can get it other places. So far I really love its durability and how easy it is to work with.

Super cute...the chairs are fun and whimsical! Regarding painting or staining, it should be your furniture, your choice unless you purchased furniture as an investment or is a family heirloom. To save money you can also look for "oops paints" which are available at most box stores that people returned because they didn't like the color, etc. The only disadvantage is that they aren't always the healthiest paints for the environment.

Paint is EVERYWHERE! Please ask around folks! Go to habitat stores... most cities have a construction "Goodwill" stores where jobsites contractors drop off old construction materials n they r sold cheap!

Check out some of your local hardware stores for Oops paint. Ours sells gallons for $8 and quarts for $2. I go frequently and stock up! I also combine colors to get the color I want.

Maybe a dumb suggestion, but could you have bought a “sample” container of paint that would have been enough to cover the chairs, since you only used a portion of the paint you bought?

If the former owner thought these chairs were "valuable" then why did they put them by the side of the road??? Your find❤❤ so paint them and make them pretty again. This type of chair is usually very solid and holds up well so it's worth spending a bit extra for paint. They turned out so very nice

A while back I got an old cabinet that was on its way to the dump. It was pretty beat up, but lovely bones, so I cleaned it up, made some repairs and painted it a pretty glittery blue with gold accents. I posted pictures on a different social media and people were mad. I got so many angry comments about how I'd "destroyed an antique" that I'd literally gotten out of the trash. Ever since then I've been a little trepidatious about posting painted furniture on the internet. I love them so much though, and thank you for the lovely comment. 🥰💜

@Michiswhimsies I use this paint all the time on my painted furniture. It holds up very well. I haven't used it on chairs yet, but I painted a hutch for a client who has a 5 YO and 3 years later, but it still looks great. I have even used it as a base coat / primer. Yes pricey but worth it. My only con is that it seems to be harder to wash out of a brush.

I used Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Oil-Enriched Enamel. It promises to be very durable and resists scratches. So far, so good, and I have children, so I think it was a good choice.
