It happened to a friend of mine, because of adhesions from a hysterectomy. She also had surgery and recovered, and it did not happen again, since 7 years ago.

Thanks for posting. I've also had a volvulous and it's nice to hear from someone else who has too. I hope you're feeling better now.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience video. I just got out of the hospital yesterday. This happened to me. When I was admitted to the ER I was sweating and shaking from so much pain and vomiting. My intestines untwisted Naturally, so I did not need surgery. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I was in the hospital for three days. I have had no prior surgeries and the doctors could not tell me why it happened or how to prevent it in the future.

I'm sorry did you have the pain from the untwisting? And it can untwist on own?

Sorry I haven't responded sooner (not sure how to fix KZbin so that it sends me notifications for comments!). I'm really sorry to hear you had a volvulus too - they're blumming painful aren't they!?! So glad yours untwisted naturally. I know it made me feel very confused and almost unresolved that they couldn't give me a reason as to why it had happened - made me worry if it'd happen again, and made me realise how easily human bodies can go wrong!! Luckily we have the solutions and medication in place for when it does. I hope you have stayed healthy since xxx

@@jnxzorz22 yes lots of pain from the twisting - I was essentially awake for 3 day rocking back and forth, and the painkillers weren't touching the pain much apart from tramadol (not sure why but morphine doesn't seem to work for me?). Yes they can untwist by themselves seemingly, but if not you have to have surgery to avoid toxic colon/perforations etc which are very serious xx

I had a small bowel volvulus emergency laparotomy when I was 22. I spent 17 days on the hospital because I developed appendicitis and had to have an additional surgery. I was on suction through my NG tube for so long because of copious amounts of green bile! So horrific! An extremely painful experience and a huge scar as a reminder.

Yes the green stuff coming out the NG tube was pretty awful!! 🙈 17 days sounds a nightmare. Perhaps a blessing then that I don't have an appendix already (due to past surgeries) as I didn't have this complication! Hope you are well now xx

I feel rest bad for you. I've had a very similar symptoms but I feel that the doctors have created a mountain out of a mole hill for you. I wouldn't even consider surgery I get ill but definitely remicade should be made available to people with ulcerative colitis because it does work. Good luck.

Had a volvolus too, due to meckel diverticulum (was born with that apparently), appeared out of the blue one evening and required immediate surgery. They took out my terminal ileum and ileocecal valve. I'm fine now, though I need to go to the toilet more often than before (due to bile acid malabsorbtion).

Hi do you take bile acid sequestrants or did the issue resolve?
@giuseppeb397

@@macgina8412 I tried but find it very hard to get the dosage right. Plus I don't like the idea of taking a medication for life, so I only take it occasionally when I need some extra security :) otherside I've kind of learnt to live with it.

Please if anyone has experienced this please let me know. My 2 year old son just had 2.5 feet of his small intestine removed. I’m scared to death of what will become of his future, they took ileum and valve. Please is there any hope for him. Please share. I’ve been crying desperately all day and night. I wanted him to have a healthy easy going future

I'm sorry to hear your son was poorly - I hope he's recovered well from the surgery. We are lucky that there are constantly new medical resolutions being discovered/perfected, and that the world is becoming more and more accepting of bodies that don't necessarily fall in the 'normal' look/ability. I live a normal and happy life with my ostomy and scars xx

I'm sorry that you had to watch your baby go through that. This happened to me 2 years ago. 3 hospitals, emergency surgery, 5 days on life support and 2 more surgeries, 7 week recovery, total of 3 months in the hospital unable to eat. My only after effect is that my appetite has not returned, but I'm 45 now. Kids are resilient, you're baby is growing and will be hungry. I hope his recovery was quick.
