I'm almost one month in after doing the bypass, no issues at all I haven't lost any coolant at all after the bypass Toyota Prius 2018

That’s awesome to hear! My bypass is going strong as well and I’m very thankful I had your video to show the mechanic! A video idea I recommend whenever you have time: what tools you recommend for beginner mechanics who want to start doing their own maintenance. I want to start doing my own oil changes, coolant flushes, etc but have no tools. Would love to see what you recommend , I think it would be a great video. Keep up the great work!

Car looks SO good! Engine bay looks great for almost 200,000 miles! Do u hose it? Paint is so shiny. So nice to see a Toyota so well maintained. 👍✊️🖖🇺🇸

It's good that it boils the remaining coolant in the bypassed line out, so you don't have to drain it, blow it out with compressed air, etc. I'm debating whether it's better to then remove the empty lines to save weight, or keep them there in case a state inspector would make a big deal of them being missing, and try to claim it's emissions related. Being lazy, I'll probably leave mine there when I do it, though doing camping in the car, there have been times when I was going down the road over the car's GVWR. Saving a few pounds here and there is never a bad idea. At least the weight of the coolant in those lines are lost, maybe a pound or two.

They would have to look inside the engine bay way in the back. It should not affect emissions that I know of

FYI if anyone has a 2017-2019 with this issue they maybe can use TSB 0135-19 to get it replaced for free under the warranty condition. Mine is a salvaged title so technically doesn't count but somehow my local dealer covered it. Probably cause I paid tons of money for head gasket replacement.
@DIYBIGMAN4 ай бұрын
When I was at the dealership, I told them about that problem. They didn’t really seem to care about helping me with the coolant issues, especially because I had too many miles but if anybody can get the dealership to fix it for free, that would be awesome. This is a common problem once you get to higher mileage.

You had a headgasket failure on a 4th gen Prime?! I thought that was a problem of the 3rd gens.

@@Sunset4Semaphores No never had a head gasket issue so far! Just a leak into my catalytic converter. But it is fixed now
@samsung_captivategalaxy_s83314 ай бұрын
Yeah. I have the common vvt rattle at start up. I thought it was the head gasket so I borrowed a boroscope and noticed steam cleaned pistons on only two cylinders. Dealership confirmed the head gasket was leaking. I still have the vvt noise. Dealership diagnosed that incorrectly. I hate this motor. My old 03 corolla had 268k with no engine issues. Should have kept that car.

I would think it falls under The emissions warranty since it’s related to cat converter warm up.

Really enjoying these videos centering around your heat exchanger problem the fix and the update! Thank you so much. Would you tell us how many miles it has been in these 5 months that you have and using the fix? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 This is the issue that is troubling to me in terms of upgrading from my second gen to a fourth gen. I really would like to just cap things off preventatively so that I don't have this happen while on the road as I am dependent on the Prius for long trips.
@DIYBIGMAN2 ай бұрын
I would just do this procedure as well. But some say the dealership may have a TSB on this problem. The car is running great I will make another video showing the heater works just fine with a thermometer

Should I wait for this to happen or do it before it happens currently have a 2017 with 62k on it
@DIYBIGMAN2 күн бұрын
It doesn’t hurt to do it sooner but honestly, if I was you, I would just wait until I start to see some white smoke come out and coolant drop. You’ve got probably at least another 40- 60K until that happens. But just subscribed to my website so you can look at it in the future.

I’m having this issue with my 2017 Prius prime, at 190k miles. Took it to the dealership and they want to replace the water pump and the catalytic converter. I don’t know what to do ? They want 4K for all the repairs

Dealerships always have a tendency to rip people off. If they actually do the work for a better price I would say go for it. But that’s ridiculous. $4000 is a lot of money unless you have that to spend. Otherwise, I would just do my bypass try it out. It cost nothing and you don’t need to buy any parts. If you still have problems, then take it to the dealership.
@chabalojodidoАй бұрын
@@DIYBIGMAN yeah after watching this video, I’m gonna ask my friend who is a mechanic if he can bypass it, cause that’s a lot of money. The only good thing I heard from the dealership is that the engine is not leaking. Thanks for this video.

@DIYBIGMAN19 күн бұрын
@@luisestrada5680 it’s probably leaking elsewhere
