The housing includes 1-inch insulation so an additional inline silencer isn't necessary unless the installation is in a location with strict sound requirements. As you mentioned, Corbett, the shut-off damper is included with the makeup air system. Electrical heaters are optional, with wattage depending on the project's locale.

Man that would be great to have. I've only lived in houses where all the kitchen and bath exhaust fans pull air from.. magic places..

Mine’s hand-crank. Hand-crank open the big casement window in the kitchen when using the hood! Lol

That looks like a game changer! 👍 I like that the dampers are built in. I forgot to order one for the exhaust side. Didn't realize it until doing the blower door test.

More companies need to come out with kits for this. Broan makes one but doesn’t come with a filter box. Most people end up cobbing something together.

Thats my luck! I just installed that so you're welcome for a much more compact unit!

I bought a Fit70 ERV and have not been happy with Fantech's support at all. My core has emitted an odd odor since day one and they directed me to wash it incorrectly (until I pointed out the difference between the directions they were giving me and the ERV's instruction manual). Once they eventually decided that the core needed to be replaced, they pushed it off to the distributor (Sylvane...who months later have still yet to get me a replacement core).

It would be great if range hoods where designed with make-up air functionality built-in. Would make this a lot more accessible without having to install a whole new system.
@dosadoodle5 ай бұрын
I saw one custom range hood that pushed the make-up air in around the range hood -- kind of a shell of air around the range hood, so that outdoor air was quickly exhausted again, presumably taking the cooking exhaust with it. It was very clever, but very custom and I'm sure very expensive, and also unclear if it actually worked as intended.

@dosadoodle have a video coming about this

This make the most sense. Make up air is brought in along the edge of the hood. No filters/heaters/electronics/separate ducts needed. Just need a concentric vent large enough to handle the cfm? Should have damper/seal to prevent air leakage on both exhaust and intake.

@@ehiker1 That's really interesting thanks for sharing. It would be cool to have something like this in an off-the-shelf product. It's interesting in the video that he mentions they already do this in commercial kitchens (around 4 minute mark).

What options are there in the UK and Europe? I went to the Installer Show last month and there were only MHRV units and bathroom extractors on show, nothing for makeup air.

Great update!!! What do you recommend for Climate Zone 2A (Hot/Humid) to either dehumidify or even condition the make up air. The heater is great but obviously doesn't help in Climate Zone 2A :)
@HomePerformance5 ай бұрын
Really can't do it, Niko- it's just too much air too fast. Best bet is to put the make up air grille as close as possible to the kitchen exhaust, so the air spends as little time as possible in the home before it gets exhausted again. Good to hear from you buddy!
@nikojansen96485 ай бұрын
@@HomePerformance Great, as always thanks for the quick reply. Planing to do something similar to what you did in your kitchen. Putting the grill at the bottom of the cabinets. Was just wondering if there is anything new on the market that allows for super quick conditioning :)

Could you do two Santa Fe 205's as makeup air? It would be pretty expensive and bulky but I don't know what else to dehumidify in Zone 2A either.
@NurseAcrobat5 ай бұрын
@@ohhgourami Someone could also play with Sante Fe's commercial sibling Quest. A Quest 506 is rated for 506 pints and 1480cfm on 240 volts for just under $8,000 and they have even larger models. Ideally the makeup air would be close enough to the exhaust that conditioning it wouldn't be so important as it would be getting vented out almost immediately anyhow.
@ohhgourami5 ай бұрын
@@NurseAcrobat Ideally make up air is close enough but not short cycling. Ideally it forms a curtain of air that prevents odors and gas from escaping. I still imagine there is mixing of humid air from the rest of the room or at least nearby surfaces like countertops and cabinets. There's plenty of summer mornings at 100% RH and there will definitely be condensation once that air enters the room which is why I think dehumidification is necessary. Thanks for the recommendation on the Quest.

why would a filter here be key if we aren't filtering passive intake air otherwise?
