Regarding the space between the float and container.... what about a white, plastic, flexible, T- shaped molding, like at home depot. You can cut the length to size and it would just slip in and be removable.

May I make some suggestions for your channel? 1) I know you are trying to help beginners like myself, but it has been an exercise in frustration trying to figure out where you got your bins and the top. The Amazon links don’t work. 2) this is not a vertical system. It is horizontal. It’s also not a tower. Please get your descriptions better. Keep up the good work. It’s exciting to see your progress. Please tell us how to get the bin and top. Your links don’t work!

What if you lowered the level of the water a little bit so that it is just touching the tips of the roots?

That's a good idea but then I may have to refill res. I have 17gallons and 30 plants so let's say for easy math 1/2 gallon of water each plant. Good thing is it's greens and only grows few weeks. Once I get the oasis grow cubes it will solve issue all together (hopefully)
