This has been so helpful in our journey. My 17 y.o. had her first PAO in feb. Just a around the 5 month mark she started having pain again turns out she developed bone growth where the screw are. So they’ll be shaving it down and removing the screws as well as doing the right PAO and I’ve taken so many notes from your journey. It helped us so much with the first one.

This week is the 6 week mark for my right hip following a PAO! It’s been rough but I’m hopeful to be able to walk again, it’s been over 3 years since I’ve been able to walk correctly so this is all overwhelming. Thank you for your videos, nobody I know understands what type of surgery I’ve gone through so it’s been frustrating.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I am a 33 year old female. I have hip dysplasia in my left hip and acetabular retroversion causing moderate impingement too. I also have a torn labrum. I'm a bodybuilder and I'm HIGHLY active. I've been in pain for 6+ months now and it took me 4 months just to get a correct diagnosis. The first surgeon I saw told me I'm too old for PAO but I'm too young for a hip replacement. I left his office crying. Basically he told me to just deal with the pain and to quit bodybuilding. I was so angry. The next surgeon I saw only wanted to repair my labrum but I told him it would probably just tear again because of my dysplasia and Impingement. The 3rd surgeon I just saw on 10/12 told me I can only have a PAO with arthroscopic labral repair but NO hip replacement. I would rather have THR as it's WAY less invasive than PAO. I know the parts don't last forever but I don't care. I would rather have 2 THRs on the same hip in my whole life time than have ANY kind of PAO once. No surgeon will listen to me. I don't know what to do other than keep getting kenalog injections (which will accelerate apoptosis and osteoarthritis) and continuing PT. PT is helping a bit but sometimes I'm in intense pain (7/10) for over a week after 1 PT session. It's agonizing. No one should have to live this way but doctors keep dismissing me. I don't want to give up bodybuilding. I had dreams of trying powerlifting too but I gave up on those when I realized I have dysplasia/impingement and torn labrum. I haven't been able to barbell back squat since my injury. I'm really scared, frustrated, and depressed. :-(

Hi Kate, thank you so much for sharing! I am truly sorry to hear about your experience and wish it were different. I too had to see many different physicians and got several opinions (2nd, 3rd, AND 4th) before I felt comfortable moving forward. I ultimately had to come to the realization that I may never be able to run again, until I became aligned with a team of doctors and physical therapists who were willing to work with me to achieve my dreams. I have a long way to go, but knowing that it is a possibility has given me hope, so I understand to some degree what you are looking for in terms of outcome. Ultimately, I hope through work with your multidisciplinary team you are able to find a happy medium or hopefully achieve what you are passionate about. If you are unable to, I hope you find peace with your outcome. I'm rooting for you! Please let me know how I can make videos to support you in your journey, because this channel among other things is to bring us together and to let you and others know you aren't alone!

My exact same story! I was 27 when I got my first surgery for my left hip labral tear. I got two surgeries but it was performed by two different surgeons. When the first doc did the surgery, it progressively got worse! Went back to him and complained and he basically told me that wasn’t the issue. Thank God I was referred to another doc and is one of the best orthopedic surgeon here in Austin. He performed my second surgery of which I had to get a reconstruction done. I haven’t had any issues since with that hip. I now have to get my right hip done as it is torn as well but now having issues. The same surgeon will perform the surgery. It’s so worth it. You will be back to working out 100% before you know it! I opted for it so I can enjoy running and higher intensity training.
