I got married last Friday as well so congrats to you and your partner! It's a wonderful time to be married. Devin's music is truly transcendental on so many levels.

Way to go! If you have a few minutes I wrote a wall of text below - I have had an odd life with some of the worst luck and some good luck all mixed together... I will probably delete it, I am actually embarrassed and disgusted to see it, but I wonder if it can help anyone... I went thru some good challenges before I got married and every single penny I have I made or my wife made... now my oldest kid is out of college with the younger one out in just a year. Life is not fair, some people seem to get all the breaks and often undeservedly so and all you can do is do your best. In recent times challenges have come back probably the worst I ever had... so you never know. For me I was happy when I grew up for sure but no money to speak of, could not afford college so I got a job and saved up a few years and finished school in 3 years. I could not be stopped, whatever I wanted I simply set my mind to it and worked towards it relentlessly until i got it. I got to make a lot of peoples lives a lot better along the way, at least their work lives, and had a great reputation with people at all levels. But a nasty accident fuked me up real good, cost me my job (eventually, physical therapy wasn't working, was not a surgical option, I was just fuked up for good, the doc's called it "intractable whatever..." meaning you are stuck with it so get used to it. Things kind of spiraled and I went from literally capable of anything, physically invincible to a nervous wreck who is always scared and no longer strong, actually becoming feeble. Depression set in (was always there throughout my life but this was real real depression, it felt different in a big way, it was the worst... the don't shower for weeks or get out of bed for any reason other than the bathroom kind of depression (with some really good reasons to be down by the way, bad things do bring you down and I have a whole stack of them hitting all at once). One good thing was my Dr who was helping me said "of course your depressed, you have so much shyte going wrong for real that anyone would be down..." hearing that helped, a bit of reality and sanity for me to grab on to... Top it off with some serious financial troubles and a massive relationship problem with someone extremely important to me and I was like - fuk this, i am leaving... but we worked thru the finances (it was possible for me and my wife to retire in our early/mid 60's but now it is likely that I may NEVER get the chance to retire... we are wiped out and almost back to zero! So ok, get tough right? So I finally shook it off and said I am going to claw my way back and boom... 1 month after thinking I might be looking at better times and a fresh start I get a new boss, and this one is a complete fukwit. I have never had problems with anyone, and I work in a job that has put me in front of thousands of people over the years, all levels, all types, here and abroad, never a problem with anyone. But can a guy get a break? Nah, after 30 years of working and maintaining a great reputation this guy decides that he does not like me and is doing things that are extremely concerning... he is messing with all of my security, my stability, and I know he knows it is having serious consequences for me yet he does not yield at all. He is definitely trying to get rid of me. My work so far at this company is solid, and for what it is worth he had a couple years to fix shyte and did jack shyte as evidenced by, well, the numbers and in only 7 weeks I have been able to produce solutions to all of the problems that we are facing, literally and I have a literal roadmap for how to go from where we are now to truly high performance. No kidding, no exaggeration, I can prove it yet this fuknut does not realize that I have handed him the holy grail. He is the kind of piece of shyte to complain about the Lamborghini that you gave him because he wanted a red one... So what is my message here cause it is confusing and I think that is it - life, like Devin says in this video is amazing, and it truly is and if you ever get a taste of what real love is, or true fulfillment or happiness is you will agree. But it also sucks hard at the same time... People suck, not all but a lot, everyone running around with their ego's, their titles, degrees, positions of authority and therefore power. i see it on display every single day and I laugh cause these folks couldn't figure out a 3 piece puzzle set even with 2 of the pieces laid out correctly for them yet they have the power and it is not, repeat NOT due to competence, more like their ability in networking, nepotism, favoritism, being in the "club" etc... Listening to Devin for the past several years has been great, he is a very interesting person and an amazing showman, an incredible vocalist, a god damn god of a song writer, he just seems like a neat but kind of messed up person, and aren't we all! Good luck, work hard to get what you want, be smart, choose only good friends, don't ever sell out by joining the "club" so that you can sleep at night knowing that you can't be bought and you won't compromise on what is objectively right and true... Cheers and Thank you to Devin Townsend! There is something about your music that is just, well it is like it is from another planet, another dimension, a better one.

I started working on my master thesis shortly after the first podcast and hope to graduate next week. While it seems completely different from writing an album, you wouldn't believe how similar the struggles can be. It also put into perspective how much work writing an album can be. Glad to see you got some time to wind down in between, I hope to do so as well soon

My birthday was the 5th, and I spent it having a conversation with my departed family at their plot in the cemetary. Not really out of faith, but more sentimentality, but anyway...it ended kinda similar to this video. They didn't have much to say, of course, but I still get a lot of clarity doing things like that. And you're right, life's amazing. No matter what.

Dev, I’ve been listening to your music for decades, seen you perform live, and even got to shake your hand after your show at Trees in Dallas years ago (second-best night of my life 😂). I’ve never commented before but I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the ways in which your music has touched me. More recently, after nearly dying three times in the past two years, I have been on this amazing and unexplainably life-changing spiritual journey. I have found immense personal peace and a love directed towards all things, and your music has been a major influence in that respect (the entirety of Singularity in particular speaks volumes to me every single time). Thank you for all that you do and for the many, many years of happy tears. ❤ I sincerely hope I get to meet you at least one more time during this current physical existence.

Atmos is probably awesome, but really., how many people actually can afford an Atmos system? Sadly, most people these days listen to music on the phones. I'm the odd duck here. I have a really stereo. A tube amp, a high end pre-amp, a great CD player and killer speakers in a good room. Plus i can listen in my little recording studio,.
