EN: Maryam Rostampour and Marzieh Esmaeilabad are detained in solitary confinement in a Tehran prison, where they were interrogated while blindfolded. They are held since March 2009 and were tried on August 9, when they were sentenced to death. Their crime? They were Muslims and converted to Christianity!
The Iranian law punishes "apostasy" from Islam with life imprisonment or the death penalty.
In addition, § 225.10 of this bill calls for women that: "They must be whipped during the five daily prayer times, and their quality of life and the quantity of food, clothing and water must be lowered until they show remorse."
On 9 August 2009 they were asked in court to renounce their Christian faith, but they repeatedly stressed that they did not regret and did not recant faith in Christ.

Please sent the following message to the Iranian embassy to your country:
We were so relieved to learn that Maryam Rostampour and Marzieh Esmaielabad were released from the infamous Evin prison. We were also happy to hear that the absolutely irrational anti-state charges against them were dropped.
It is a shame that these two ladies remained 259 days in detention without access to appropriate medical care. Because of this inhuman treatment, they are in very poor health. We hope that their health will be fully restored, and we expect and demand that both of them be judged fairly, with respect for human rights! In fact, we believe that both of them, as well as their families, should be compensated for all their inexcusable suffering!
It will be quite gratifying to see the Iranian judicial system treat Maryam and Marzieh fairly, proving that Iran fully respects Article 18 (1) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to which it is a state party. According to this article, Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
