I put mine inside my front locker (the breakaway battery and all the trailer wiring). Didn’t want anything exposed. But they are made to be external mount

Ya, I'm thinking the tool box is best place for it to keep it clean looking and protect the wiring best.

Do you notice any difference while towing since you didn't change the front top to rounded or square drop? It saves time and gives a little more room

I have not noticed a difference. I'm sure it creates some wind resistance, but so far, it tows just fine .

Adding some kind of self-adhesive gutters over all doors help reduce the risk of water ingress.

Yes, I have gutters for the doors. Just have not installed them yet
