Chester, the False killer whale is doing great! (I visited him last week) He is quite the ham too! He is in the Vancouver aquarium in a large pool with a young white sided dolphin and they play like puppies! Chester will also come to the side of the underwater window and interact with the people looking at him! He's very smart, and has a good life and good care, but will not be releasable as he was so young when he was rescued and he is imprinted and couldn't fend for himself in the wild.

Benar sekali, bayi paus dilepaskan kalau dia sudah mampu mempertahankan diri. Tapi kalau ketemu rombongan orca, bisakah dia selamat? Kalau sekarang sudah bertemu dengan induk dan keluarganya kah?

I appreciate the conservation and rescue program by Vancouver Aquarium. I was privileged to see and photograph 'Springer' the rescue Orca in Johnstone Strait some years ago.

Such good news. Congrats on the work guys,

Ernest Heng - they can't know that yet. It's unlikely that an animal so young, if it takes a long time to recover, can ever be released again. SeaWorld for example has five rescued pilot whales in total (four at Orlando, one at San Diego, together with two older pilot whales), that can never be released. There are many bottlenose dolphins around different parks that have stranded, been rescued, and could not be released for whatever reason.

This is really cool! I wonder if this calf was premature or if mom got attacked by something immediately preceding or after delivery. No pleuritis or peritonitis...weird...

No updates on this one either, not even on your site. It's not much of a story without an ending one way or the other.
@Mitchcraft.8 жыл бұрын
They probably kept it since they are rare, it is very unpopular for them to be kept in captivity so they will have kept that info to a minimum. I hope i am wrong and that this creature could be released instead but as you say why would they not update us on this!

mitchcraft They kept him because he was deemed non releasable by the government. He stranded at such a young age he is not able to learn basic skills to survive in the wild.

Babies can't take care of themselves, without a pod he'd have died. Is that really a happy ending to leave them to die. Morally I couldn't do it.

The aquariums don’t decide any of this , Government agency request help from aquariums and those agencies determine if they can be released , Not the facility
