You should have the Plummer install a sealed cap around the shower pipe to prevent water from going behind the tiles. I think a shower down spout should replace that small pipe

J bud, good job. Remember paint and dust are not friends. Tip. Line out with painters' tape if you can for a cleaner finish. Protect the windows and doors with plastic, etc. Paint hard to come off. Looking forward to seeing the cleanup outside.
