Update We are Building Again!

Well it has been a while since I have put out a video because I have been focusing on our building project. We have approval now to start the addition to our home. It was our plan from the start to begin with a small home and to save up the money to add on without going into debt. We are working hard to get the structure up and dried in before the rain comes. This is more of a problem now because of a series of delays.

Wow that's a lot of digging and a LOT of concrete to mix by hand. But when you're not in a rush, it can be fun -- I agree. I always think of this Skinner quote: "Just make it into a game! First see how many envelopes you can lick in an hour. And then, try to break that record!"

It is a lot of concrete. Waking up in the morning after 70 bags made me rethink my plans. We've now rigged the broken mixer to work and we are using that today. I love your quote, I think I found some of my limits though.

Use a mattock in a wheel barrow, to mix the concrete, the weight of the mattock and it's strength makes it easier, also I would use a mask. I wish you success.

Thanks for the update on your property. I'm glad you are able to do a lot of the work with what you already have. You might try craigslist for used tools that you may need for your build. I'm almost ready to move to my property, but have to do some work with the barndominium I had built in 2017. It has spray foam insulation that I'm having removed because the builders installed it incorrectly, which caused it to off gas for the past 3 years (probably replace with fiber glass insulation). In the mean time, I've been planting trees and other land scaping items that take a while to establish. Take care!

Give a look into a paddle mixer. A real good one is less than that mixer. Collomix is a reliable brand.

It's actually just the camera from my phone and a very yellow orange evening. Usually the lighting around here is blue green. My phone is easiest to grab so it might be what you see for the next few videos.

Too bad you have to ask permission to build your own home on your own land. There's no zoning where I live and anyone who suggests there should be is literally shouted down by the majority. People here are hoppin mad at the thought of losing such a fundamental freedom like the right to build their own home on their own land.
