Not exactly, quality can be subjective when talking about 2 different materials. The 1989 Air Jordan IV “White Cement” is the first Air Jordan to use white durabuck. This first version of the durabuck crumbled and looks atrocious after a few years. That was Nike’s intention, to make the shoe more durable but cheaper, so full grain leather shoes were replaced with synthetic materials like durabuck. Nike stated it was to make the shoe easier to clean and last longer, but they also wanted their customers to keep buying shoes, especially those who played sports in them. The 1999 is not like the 1989 because they were crafted using two different molds and constructed of different materials with a different method of construction.
