I think the mechanic should be the crew's morale. Makes more sense how it would affect all d20 tests. And can be decreased in many different ways like to cut a ships flag, kill their captain, destroy the sails reducing the speed to 0, killing crew, etc. And if the morale drops below a certain point the crew will ultimately surrender. Also a crews morale could already be lowered before combat begins due to issues with leadership.

I would definitely use this! Especially with GoS officer gameplay where my capt, first mate, and bosun all can give an advantage to the artillery and feel no sense of danger. Keep subtracting 1 from the advantage rolls will add a whole new and intense element! Thank you!!

This sounds great and I am almost sorry I am only finding it now, when I am already running a pirate campaign in DnD with my own, much less elegant and much more complicated, set of rules

❤ Love a good house rule - I’m on a quest to collect all the house rules on KZbin - could you point me to your previous video on ship combat. - I looked thru your backlog, but with over 500 videos, it’s easy to miss - if you have more house rules I’d love to hear about them - thank you very much 🙏🏿

How do you handle things like chases or maneuvering into/with wind? Are there different range weapons? Any idea on upgrading the ship to take more damage, increase speed/maneuvering, etc? Is there ramming rules?

We find that what works for us is to make the ship a tool the players use to do their players character stuff, rather than really it’s own thing. However, the Ghosts of Salt Marsh has some official rules for D&D and there are tons of third party systems out there that tackle more indepth systems like Seas of Vodari.

The way this was explained was super chaotic and difficult to follow. I'd appreciate a write up or some notes on screen to show how combat should go.

Nice vidoe! Are these new ship rules available as a downloadable document anywhere?

Not yet! We hope to be able to do so, but in the meantime please check the video description for a breakdown as well as the new official exhaustion rules!

What would you do if a player on board a -4 Exhausted ship also has individual Exhausted levels? In theory they could get a -18? Or is it cumulative? -4 Exhausted of being on the ship + -5 Exhausted for personal reasons is 1 level of Exhausted away from death?
@BeachandHills-hb2pq4 ай бұрын
@@briandeboer1990 That would be to hard I think. Adding the negative modifier for rolls is good but dying is to much. Ship and player at -5 each for -10 is going to have them running for life boats 🚤 or praying 🙏. Level 4 is scary just 2 from death 💀. Warlock spell inflicts exsurstion becomes smartly good corroding ships 🚢
