Yes they do have bad luck at times but that's far from the reason why they can't put and end to the curse. Goaltending has also never been completely stellar for the Sharks as well. you got the karlsson trade incorrect. The sharks only gave up their 2020 first round pick, 2019 second round pick and 2021 second round pick. The conditions were (per capfriendly): Sens receive a 1st round pick from the Sharks (no later than 2022) if Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster (reserve list) during the 2018-19 season. This condition was not met so no pick was given. Ottawa receives Sharks 2019 1st round pick if Sharks do not make the playoffs. If Sharks make the playoffs, Ottawa receives Sharks 2020 1st. Sharks made the 2019 playoffs so Ottawa gets the 2020 first round pick Sens receive Sharks 2021 2nd round pick if Karlsson is re-signed. The selection upgrades to a 2021 1st if Sharks reach the Stanley Cup final in 2019. Sharks did not make the finals so this is only a 2021 second round pick And finally whichever 2019 second round pick between their own and florida's which was higher goes to the sens. So the actual trade was: Erik Karlsson and Francis Perron for Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Rudolfs Balcers, Josh Norris, a 2019 Second, a 2020 First, and a 2021 Second

It's worth mentioning that the picks for the Karlsson trade are not listed accurately here. The conditions for the Karlsson trade are: Senators receive a 1st round pick from Sharks if Karlsson is on an Easter conference roster during 2018-19 season. Karlsson is not traded away from Sharks. Result: No picks are moved. Senators receive Sharks 2019 1st round pick if they miss playoffs. If Sharks make playoffs, pick is a 2020 1st instead. Sharks made 2019 playoffs. Result: Senators receive Sharks 2020 1st round pick. Senators receive 2021 2nd round pick if Karlsson resigns in SJ. The selection upgrades to a 2021 1st round if Sharks make 2019 Cup Final. Karlsson resigns, but did not make 2019 Cup Final. Result: Ottawa receives Sharks 2021 2nd round pick. Senators receive the higher of the 2nd round picks Sharks own (Panthers). Panthers pick is higher due to regular season record. Result: Senators receive Panthers 2019 2nd round pick. Meaning the Sharks sent D. DeMelo, C. Tierney, R. Balcers, J. Norris' signing rights (RFA), 2020 1st, 2021 2nd, Panthers 2019 2nd. Ottawa sent Karlsson & Perron. So Sharks sent 3 players, signing rights for 1 player, and 3 picks (2 of their own). Still quite a bit sent, but not as badly as what is listed on the board here. It's all reviewable on Capfriendly here: www.capfriendly.com/draft/2020&pick=24
