I decided to re-upload the video I posted yesterday based on a error one of our viewers pointed out to us. Thanks for keeping us on top of our game!
In this video, Maia and Andrew explain how to set-up and perform a fractional distillation

Thankyou so much for this video, really helped me understand a fractional distillation and setup my glass. Very nice!

My dear students Ethanol and water form an BINARY AZEOTROPE of 95:5 as such any fractional distillation would not successfully seperate them . Please choose a binary mixture of liquids which do not form an azeotrope .

Is that a closed system? How is your receiving flash connected to the condenser? Is that an insulator on your fractionating column? your thermometer adaptor cork, rubber or glass? Great video, but it's not very informative... There's no attention to detail in making the video... I notice at the beginning you forgot to connect a hose? Why do you need a boiling chip? Where is the liquid going to boil/bubble over from? What's that thing show showed at 3:27? Y'all didnt mention it or talk about it. When you're done do you disassemble straight away once you're done, or is there a cooling time before disassembly?

The system is closed. They show how the recieving flask is connected. I would asume that the material around the column is isolation. I'd say it's rubber. Everything is properly connected. So it doesn't boil over (you answer yourself). If it boils over the flask the liquid could go up the column and onto the recieving flask. A regulator for the temperature of the mantle. I would let it cool. Just chill and don't be rude, your questions are quite obvious so that is why they don't explain everything.

@@Marc91FM The system is not closed, there is a small outlet/inlet in the segment that sits between the condenser and the collection flask visible at 2:15, heating a closed system is a really bad idea as it could explode due to pressure build up due to heat.
