Hi. I listened to the two of you on the "Lost Trades " podcast and remember you saying you worked from the basement of your home. I just bumped in to your studio tour video. I recently started the hobby in my own basement and I can see I to will need to start spreading out from the little corner I'm in. Love how you set up special areas for each process. I enjoyed binging on some of your videos and I think the hat making is very cool.

Do you guys do your operation with a skiver for your bag bodies. I know gussets take alot of planning to work right and just curious if you all manage without skiving. Ty

I don't want to sound pedantic, but you can't really advertise handcrafted when you have and use so many machines

It's like "made with genuine leather". As long as it has a tiny strip of leather, it's still technically not a lie. It's a small production shop, and it's still nice to see how they do it, and how their process works. Again, technically, it's handcrafted. One would even say foot-crafted, for the riveting part.

Thanks for your input. It's the best way we have to describe what we do. We do use hand tools. Hand stitching as well in some designs. It depends where you draw the line. We are not a fully machine/automated business. We're all ears for suggestions on a more precise terminology. We're a two person team that does everything in the process from design to production to shipping, and all our social content/marketing. Thanks for your comment.

I marked saddle bags with all hand tools and no power tools. All stitching done is saddle stitch to include knives to cut out patterns. Not many people want to pay the cost due to time. Especially is you do much lining and bump pockets. To me you need to use some power machines to truly make a living. I am fortunate that I draw a retirement. A large bag on my end can take up to 10 days to make. Now, I think saddle stitch looks the best and is more durable. Sewing machines are faster and allow you to decrease cost to customers to include lower production cost. It is about what you prefer doing at a high level with solid branding…
