I've just returned from a 4250km trip with my ZD30. What with a new injector pump, new injectors and glow plugs a new EGR valve and a couple of other touch ups it went perfectly. Towing a Bluewater camper all the way with no troubles at all. Sadly, as my knees and ankles are failing its time to move the rig on, but whacko, it's been a beauty. Its definetly a tough position to end up in, after so much time spent fixing and improving the car and engine, just for all that trust to diminish instantly. 418 thousand some odd kilometers on the odometer, and still going strong. Replacing parts is a reality with any vehicle, and we all have to face it. It's not IF the part will fail, it's WHEN. I've never heard of an oil catch can before, but I think every vehicle needs it to be on the safe side. The quantity of oil you've taken out of the catch can would probably be less without a turbocharger, but I don't know enough about engines to give a definitive answer one way or the other. Keep those wheels turning, and enjoy the journey. Cheers, Colton

For longevity I reckon doing your filter and oil more regularly than what the manufacturer says is spot on. The new filter and oil may not do anything but at the very least it forces you to open the bonnet on a regular basis and have a look for anything that doesn’t look right. I’m really interested in what you think of using a camper after a while- I’m at an age where I’m also looking at a bit more comfort and convenience when camping - none of us are getting any younger …lol Cheers

Zd30crd is as average as it gets, di motors were hit and miss, td42s are heavy slow and overheat if they havent been perfectly maintained their whole life. Rd28s are probably the best diesel they put in a gu which is kinda sad because how sluggish they are. Meanwhile TB45- bulletproof, TB48- ALMOST bulletproof.
