I currently use a Galaxy S22. One time during vacation, I just let my phone charge, and then it started to automatically update from OneUI 5 to OneUI6. I had to get used to navigating the phone again, then about a week or so later, I got used to the navigation system. And today? IT'S A WALK IN THE PARK!

@@CrisGarcia6 i did check the updates, but her phone has been aborting an update to a newer version of One UI 5 (Android 13) for months and she cant update her phone if she has some important things to do and there is already an older update downloaded waiting to be installed so she cant update to One UI 6 (android 14) until she doesn't have any important things to do and the patch update is applied

@@sebysebyt12 moms phone is an unlocked variant without any of that "t-mobile" bloatware. mom won't have One UI 6 until the phone has the one ui 5 patch installed if she doesn't want to plug her phone into a computer with odin or the phone decides to delete the downloaded patch

Bro, every brand has their own "adapted", modified variants of Android, using their User Interfaces and their services. For example, Xiaomi had MiUI. Samsung has One UI. Some even make their own Operating Systems based on Android. Xiaomi made HyperOS. Samsung doesn't have any yet. And some apps that are meant for another "modified" version of Android than the one you're using(for example, an EMUI(former Huawei UI) app will not run on One UI, since it's not compatible). What's used by Google Pixel phones is Stock Android. That's the actual, non-modified version of Android.

Except that Samsung still can't make system updates seamless, so that you can install them while using the same KZbin, rather than waiting to install them separately. So, you have Android, the OS. It's owned by Google, which makes Pixel phones(that's their name). Each of the other brands that use Android, including Samsung, have their own, modified variants of Android, which contain their own services, their own UI(User Interface), etc. Samsung used until 2016 TouchWiz. TouchWiz got replaced by Samsung Experience, which lasted until early 2019. Samsung Experience got replaced by One UI. Now, you most probably don't remember what it said *exactly* when your mom's phone got updated, so that's probably not what it said. Since One UI is what Samsung uses, each time a Samsung phone running it gets a software update, or any Samsung phone that updates from Samsung Experience to One UI, will have a text saying "One UI" displayed, while the update will basically be applied onto the phone. In most cases, they are Security Updates. Security Updates change let's say "what's under the hood", of your phone, well, not physically, but they change how your phone deals with security, so you can be defended from hackers or anything malicious on the internet(ofc, you still have to be careful yourself on the internet). If your mom didn't notice anything, it was most probably that. Security updates are released each month because hackers get new ways of doing their bad stuff, so if your phone's security doesn't keep up, then, you could say it's bad. But even if you don't update, I think it's quite rare for it to be that bad, based off personal experience. At the same time, every year a major update is released, which may change stuff entirely on the phone, for example One UI 7 is rumoured to change icons on Samsung, aswell as change other aspects too, so better be careful with that. Especially those from year to year may make your phone laggy, if it can't handle them. Security updates do not change your Android version, but those updates from year to year do, and they also change the One UI version, except the One UI version can change regardless of Android version, since One UI is owned by Samsung, and is managed by Samsung, separately from Android, but you still won't see anything major, for example all I've seen so far is after every normal One UI version(3,4,5,6 for example), you also have another smaller update to enhance it: 3.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1. And recently we got One UI 6.1.1 which added some AI features.
